So just make sure you tell your router to release its dhcp release before changing the router connected to the fios drop

How can we change the cables in the house when OB wired the house with old cables to most of the rooms in the house? If we have to use cat6 cable, how are we to swap out the old cables throughout the house that was installed in the first place in order to get higher speed as you put it.

Thanks for posting in the first place. Had no idea cable type was critical....so this education isn’t only going to help me but many others that are not as tech savvy as you are :)

I checked the cables in my patch panel they are cat5e, but not sure about what is ran throughout the house. I would beleive that they would be cat5e as I am geting 900+/900+ on on my newer desktops that have a 1gb NIC.

Are folks here using the Verizon supplied router? Or do you use your own? I got a bill this month for the router rental (around $12) - was that not supposed to be part of the HOA contract?

Nope, just internet. Nothing else. Called Verizon and they sorted it out.

By sorted it out, do you mean they removed the charge for the router? The pricing sheet says that internet service, a Quantum Gateway Router, and initial set up fee waiver are included in the contract.
