We're in Phase 3 and when our Fios first got installed (about 2 months ago), we were seeing 800Mbps or so out of the ONT. We have been having streaming problems and had our system checked today; we are not getting a constant Fios service, the download speed out of the ONT varies from about 60 Mbps to 200Mbps. This is well less than what was promised and not enough for high resolution downloads.

Is anyone else seeing the erosion of service speeds?

Who do I contact to get the Fios service checked?

    Thanks.

We have similar issues up on highview trail. Seems to be very intermittent but lots of video streaming issues where good constant speed is a must.

I will say that things should (might) get better. Initially, after my install in early June (Phase 3) I had the same issues. Frequent drops, performance issues etc. NOW, it is much better. Download speeds great and consistent. Never see any more drops or interruptions. Maybe they adjusted or optimized for everyone but maybe they still need to check Phase 4?

I'm getting more frequent drops in signal and haven't changed anything. This is a problem for remote workers.
Just today I lost my office meeting connection. I very seldom had these issues with Openband :(

Recently, I got our performance to go from ~250 Mbps (at the ONT) to about 800 Mbps. The data rate out of our (non Verizon) router is now about the same. I'm still seeing random dropouts of variable duration. Looking on the web, this has been a long standing problem that Verizon does not seem willing or able to fix.

I ran the Verizon speed test. Indicated top speeds from outside connection, but wi-fi signal of 145DLS and 155ULS.
Speeds start out very high and drop rapidly. Can I use my own router that worked great before Fios?

The technician couldn't get the main ethernet connection we used for 15 yrs, where our TV was connected, to work. Lucky we had an extra "connect all" outlet installed at the kitchen desk, but I wish the router wasn't taking up my desk space.

those speeds over wifi are not abnormal. it all depends on your device and the distance from the quantum router. what do you mean they could not get the connection to work that you used for 15 years and what is different about the connect all?

yes you can use your own router, but there are some nuances if you use FiOS TV. also, if you use your own router, you either have to release the dhcp from the quantum router before you unplug it (this is a call to tech support) or disable wifi and plug your own router into the back of the quantum router.

First, I'm about 12' from my router w/no obstruction. Both of the wall outlets are multi use ethernet, phone, cable, etc.
Tech tried for 30 min. to get our usual outlet to work. No idea why he couldn't get it. I think he was panicking until I mentioned the desk outlet LOL.
I realize everything is slower with the TV running. We have 2 running almost 24hrs a day/different schedules.

I was using DirecTV for 2+ yrs, with Openband and my own router. The only issues were weather related. Their remotes and TV controls are superior to Fios and I didn't have to call someone to order another box, as I did for Fios because of the Association. In the few months I've used Fios it has cut out more often than a year with DTV. It sounded great in writing but Fios is average.

I might try the router plugged into the router. I wasted 4hrs on the phone over 2 days just trying to order another dvr box. I will pick it up at Fair Oaks Mall (closest Verizon pickup) to avoid the $25 shipping charge. I'm going to pay for the box, monthly and the unit itself, but I'd still have to pay shipping. SUX

More than likely what is going on is that you do not have a switch installed anymore in your media panel. Your tech could not figure out why your family room data port was not live because the standard installation is to remove the original 10/100 switch that MCDean installed years ago. You can buy a gigabit switch and reinstall it, but in order to make it work, you would need to know where the patch cables in your media panel run. In my house, the ports are labeled, and the cables are marked inside my panel. For example, the family room has two data ports, and it is marked 5. The cable coming directly out of the Optical Network terminal runs to the port labeled 5 inside the patch panel. Check your setup and see if it is the same. From there, i run a cat5e cable from the back of my Quantum router to the phone port, and yes, it fits. That runs back through to my media panel, and that live data port connects to a cheap 5 port gigabit switch (data in port). From there, the switch does its magic and splits the data to the output ports, and i use the other short green cables to thread other data jacks in the house. Now, i have ethernet in 5 rooms. Solved with a $20 investment.

For your tv boxes, more than likely, they are set to wifi. If they are too far from router, you will have a weak signal. I hooked mine all back up to coax and changed the setting from the options menu on the box. They work perfect now.

And the Association does not force you to pay for FiOS tv. That is an option. DirectTV can still be your choice and you should be able to go back.

I know I'm not forced into anything beyond the internet connection. I haven't checked my basement panel to see if there is any labeling, but I don't recall any from checking prior to Fios. I have multi-connect outlets in all rooms except one BR. TV signals have been OK in other rooms. Something between the basement box and the Family room outlet the tech couldn't get to work. If I could connect to my original outlet, I could connect my main TV without wi-fi, but I'm not running a cable across the room.

I'll check out your suggestions, Thanks!

Ok it could be too that coaxial wires were crossed when the FiOS tech removed equipment from the media panel. In mine, there were two sets of coax wires from the media panel to every jack. Either they got crossed, the tech did not know how to thread them backnto the little siver splicing thing that FiOS uses, or you have bad coax cables somewhere between the media panel and that jack. For bad wires, you would need an electrician to fix.

The other thing to consider is your power supply at that electrical outlet, or the quality of your HDMI cable. If you have too much of an electrical load at the outlet where your FiOS tv set top box is, that could force it to draw from reduced power and weaken the signal. With the HDMI cable, if is cheap or old, it may distort and pixelate your tv signal.
