Has anyone gone to the dentist for just a regular bi-annual dental exam (during this pandemic)?
What measures did your dentist take to ensure everyone's safety?
    Thanks.

My son went Tuesday and everyone wear masks. The hygienist and dentist both used sanitizer and put on new gloves in front of us.
Tools are sanitized as they normally are.

I went 3 weeks ago for a cleaning. Required to read and sign disclosure forms one week prior. Phone when I arrived. Enter with a mask, they took my temperature, sanitized my hands, then completed another form with questions about exposure - signed the form. The dentist and admin. were both fully covered like saran wrapped moon walkers, including head cover, masks, full face shields, gloves, shoe covers, etc. Office was freezing cold and they had several large air purifiers running on high. The entire office was definitely aseptic.

This is from emails our dentist sent:

"Please know that the protocols we have in place originated with the AIDS crisis. The standard of care is to treat everyone as if they had a serious infectious disease. We always wear gloves, masks, and eye coverings. Anything that goes into the mouth is either sterilized or disposed of. All surfaces in the dental operatory are disinfected with an EPA approved disinfectant before/after each patient.

We are being more vigilant than normal in disinfecting other surfaces in the office and building to make your visit safe. The children’s toys and magazines have been removed from the reception room and the surfaces and door handles are disinfected at least ten times a day. My staff also disinfects the building entrance door handles and elevator buttons hourly. I will ask the other building’s doctor’s offices to do the same.

We are closely monitoring CDC and ADA guidelines as they develop and will adapt our protocols as needed. Our dental office is one of the most hygienic places most people will ever be in. We want to improve your overall health through our dental care while keeping you protected."

"When you return, you will find some of our protocols have changed. They may be a slight inconvenience but are meant to protect you.

We feel quite confident in our ability to treat patients safely with our sterilization, disinfection, and PPE protocols. In order to comply with the spirit of "social distancing" we ask that you minimize the number of people brought into the office with you. Companions should wait in the car if possible. Children will no longer be allowed to play in the reception area while the parent is being treated. Please get child care if your child does not have an appointment. Incidentally, the magazines have been removed from the office.

To minimize the number of people in our reception area, please call our office when you arrive in the parking lot. We will then call or text you when we are ready to seat you. There will be some inefficiencies with this procedure, but it will minimize your contact with other people.

We will be checking your temperature. Note that "normal" is not the same for everyone. If you have a thermometer at home, it is important that you check yourself and your children periodically to see what "normal" is."

I went on Monday and besides all the safety precautions mentioned in previous posts, they made me rinse for 30 seconds with a hydrogen peroxide/water mixture. They only used the metal tools and flossed they used very little air and water. No buffering.
