VDOT Roadwork in Broadlands Area…

VDOT’s large resurfacing project affects some roads in the Broadlands/South Ashburn area:

• Claiborne Parkway from Waxpool Road to Wynridge Drive
• Demott Drive from Reilly Terrace to Mooreview Parkway
• Mooreivew Parkway from Old Ryan Road/Greenway Ramp to Croson Lane
• Mooreview Parkway from Old Ryan Road to Loudoun County Parkway
• Wynridge Drive/Claude Moore Drive from Claiborne Parkway to Old Ryan Road

During the project, the contractor completes each of the resurfacing steps on all of the roads at the same time, then moves onto the next step (they are not resurfacing each road one by one). At this point they are putting down temporary pavement markings and will begin painting permanent markings after the new surface has cured for two weeks. Since this project is still ongoing, and has many weeks until completion, any gravel remnants will be removed in the near future. And wow what a crap job they are doing. I don't think I've ever seen a resurfacing end up worse than the road it's replacing.

 

I'm sure they are doing the best they can with the COVID restrictions in place. That'll be the excuse. I bet they bill at their normal non-covid rate on time and fully.

 

Any idea when they may complete the lane markings on Wynridge Dr.? especially at the intersection of Mooreview Pkwy? The lack of lane markings is creating confusion on the turn lanes. Prior to surfacing only the two main (center) lanes were in use in all 4 directions, and folks would turn from those main lanes (with the 'future' turn lanes painted with yellow stripes and not used). Now without the markings, the turn lanes are less obvious. Some folks are using the old method (turn from what used to be the main lanes) while others use the unmarked bump outs for the turns.

 

Even with the markings there was probably a 70/30 split with people using the center vs outer lanes. Used to have someone come up beside me at least 2 or 3 times a week. Not sure people care much about markings here lol
