Is anyone planning on participating in Trick or treat? I know with the current issue going on a lot of parents are not going to take the kidos out. I just want to plan on having some treats on hands. Also I usually just hand out candy, will that still be acceptable for a treat?

I don't want to risk exposure to number of unknown people and children and will not be handing out candy. Moreover, I hope other parents dont want to potentially expose their children and keep them at home. I hope good sense prevails and the event gets cancelled entirely.

I saw this online a few days ago and figured this could be a way to still trick or treat..LINK

But, I think that trick or treating this year will be cancelled. Even with everyone being outside - still not the best idea. Bummed too....halloween is my favorite around this neighborhood.

This year has been a bummer! My kids are both teenagers now but they look forward to handing out candies for the past 3 years to those little ones in cute costumes. Halloween does not need to be cancelled, the little ones have suffered enough.... Here is an idea - how about a PARADE. When we lived in Maryland, our school held parades for the kids the school day before halloween. I don't know but maybe our community is organizing one already, but it can be an opportunity to teach kids how to "social distance" from each other instead of instilling fear on them.

How would it be possible to "cancel" trick-or-treating?

A number of friends of mine said they are not participating in the trick or treating by leaving lights off and a sign on the door that they aren't giving out treats. Many are wary of COVID. They do not want to risk giving it nor getting it. Can't say I blame them!

Some in neighborhood may think COVID is fake and will participate and some others believe in it and will take all precautions such as leaving a bowl of candy on porch. But we all know if you leave a bowl out there, some kid will empty it all in his/her bag...screw honesty policy.

I think COVID really has done a number on everything these days...including Halloween. It will be interesting to see what happens and what not. Im not sure if I will participate as I don't want to get COVID myself...you just DON'T know and can't assume that they are not with COVID because people can be asymptomatic and still have it. I'd rather be safe than sorry and not get sick because I do have elderly parents whom I see periodically.

I think for this year it's a better safe than sorry situation. Maybe small controlled get togethers is what we will focus on

Ahh, by cancel you meant "not participate", which is obviously fine. I agree it's probably safest to put on a mask and gloves, turn off all the lights and hide from the little carriers.

Looking at threads in other places though, it appears there are quite a few that are looking forward to participating and willing to brave the 99.997 survival rate. Each to their own I guess.

SO if I go out and buy candy and no one comes then I'm screwed, b/c I will have a better chance of getting diabetes than COVID? All kidding aside, I would safely hand out candy or leave it at the appropriate safe distance for those who would come by. I just wanted to get a sense for planning purposes. I want everyone to have a safe world, but I also want those who make the choice to venture out to be welcomed.

    To each their own.
