Southern Walk - Verizon contract

When does the Southern Walk - Verizon 2-year contract end?
I'm planning to get a new router when it ends, so I wanted to have an idea of when to start looking. Thanks.

 

A short answer is, you can use your own router now; you don't need to use the Verizon router. I'm using a Netgear mesh router setup and the Verizon router sits in a box. (I think Verizon offers a newer router, too.)

I think the Verizon contract is 3 years, but I don't remember when it ends. As far as I know, the end of the contract doesn't mean Verizon goes away. In the Southern Walk section, the SWHOA is looking for people to help with what to do in the future.

 

How do you have yours set up? Do you have TV service with VZ as well or only internet. My understanding is if you have TV service you have to have their router in your network.

We only have verizon for the internet. Also, I'll downgrade to 200GB because I don't really need the speed (if I have to pay for it ).

I'm only getting internet. The wireless, mesh router is connected directly to the gateway by ethernet.

As I understand it, you're right; to get VZ TV you need their router. They use MOCA (ethernet over coax cable) for the TV part. I would think you could buy MOCA stuff and use a switch, but that seems like a pain (and I haven't tried it).

I think I saw that VZ has a new router and if you call you can get one. Again, I haven't tried this, so I don't know if it's true...

I figured. I have TV and Internet so I have to use the VZ Router in my network.

However, I am not forced to use their wifi radio. I have the VZ wireless turned off and the router plugged into my switch. From there, I use Ubiquity branded APs to broadcast my mesh network.
