What is the traffic calming task force? Any details to share with us?

VDOT and the county, working through the HOA have proposed traffic calming measures (speed humps) for 4 roads:
Glebe View between Truro Parish and Broadlands Blvd.
Demott between Broadlands Blvd and Waxpool.
    Chickacoan Trail Drive.
    Ridgeway Drive.

The HOA is looking for residents in the affected areas to get involved and review the plans.
It will take 51% of the affected residents to vote in favor of it for it to happen.

I’m sure the HOA will be sending out specifics soon.

About time that we have traffic calming measures coming- I for one am getting tired of people Speeding down Ridgeway Drive down from the hill or towards the hill- This is not Daytona Raceway here- we have kids on skateboards and motorized toy cars using Ridgeway Drive during warm weather periods so we need to slow down the traffic because cops are not around to get the kids off the roads-

glad to see that something is being done across the entire Broadlands community safety-wise.

Thanks, how about police enforcement of the loud souped-up cars racing up and down Claiborne and through our residential areas with illegal modified exhaust systems? Are you looking to form a committee? I would be interested in volunteering.

The problem is having a deputy around to catch them.

It just occurred to me over the weekend that the county does NOT have enough deputies in the county to handle business here because when I saw the kids out driving their motorized toy car/go cart, dispatch said they didn’t have anyone to send out since all were attending a terrible accident/event.

With Loudoun’s population continuing to grow and with more housing coming up, I seriously believe that the county does not have enough deputies throughout the county anymore. I haven’t seen a county car patrol the roads for years- I keep asking myself where are they patrolling these days? I see Fairfax County cops in Fairfax County on roads more than I see our Deputies in Loudoun-

Why don't they just install speed cameras and red light cameras. If you aren't speeding or blowing through red light you have nothing to complain about.

There are no lights, nor will there ever be, on these streets. Speed cameras for the purpose of issuing tickets are not legal in Virginia.

Cliff, I'm just not talking about the streets you mentioned above but people are always running the red lights on Claiborne & Broadlands, Waxpool & Demott, and Claiborne & Waxpool to name a few. No speed cameras allowed, okay how about having LCSO running radar and not just parking an empty cruiser like they recently did on Claiborne in response to the recently deadly accident. The funny part is that most speeders are our neighbors on the roads mentioned above.

I don’t think they have the manpower to run radar on those roads at all. I have NEVER ever in my 13 yrs of living here seen any Loudoun patrol those roads nor run radar in these Vicinity areas at all and leaving empty police cruisers is just BS as everyone sped past the car knowing it’s empty! It’s a real joke- I believe they never will do a dang thing about speeders in our community. I’d be shocked if they did do something about it- but not gonna hold my breath.

With the big time money we are getting from developers to annex into our HOA maybe we could offer to pay for community resource officers assigned exclusively to Broadlands? Safety and quality of life were once mainstays of this community. I am not so sure this is true anymore.

You kidding me? HOA won’t use some of the $ to find community resource officers, I would think. What would you expect these officers to do?

We already have a community resource officer assigned to Broadlands. Although that is not their exclusive duty.
And safety on the roads has gone down horribly. Whether it is speeding, driving too slow, swerving into lanes, etc. And I put the blame squarely on “distracted driving.” Or to put it more clearly people driving while staring at their phones. Almost every time I see someone doing something stupid they are staring down or you can see the thing in their hand.

You know what will get some radar patrols done? Lots of calls and emails from concerned residents. One or two won’t do it, but a few dozen probably would. And persistence.
