CapsFan2015 - So you are very excited to have speed bumps in front of your house? Is that why you put up a big thank you on behalf of the community? Did you actively campaign to put an ugly traffic calming measure in front of your property because you believed it would increase your property value? You are willing to do that to benefit the community as a whole? Do you even live on the streets that would be impacted? Please enlighten us before you lecture us on the good of the community.

rockystar - I am very excited to have speed bumps, yes, and I do live on one of the impacted streets - which is a reason I was able to vote. I was one of the 74 Yes votes...I assume you might be one of the 11 No votes, or maybe you dont live on a street thats impacted? Either way its fine, the community has spoken and is overwhelmingly (74 to 11) in favor of the speed humps on Ridgeway.

Also, I was not saying thank you ON BEHALF of the community - I dont think I speak for the community at all. I was saying THANK YOU to those within the community who voted to try to make our streets safer.

And yes, I was willing to vote on a measure I thought would bring decreased speeds to our neighborhood streets because I felt it was a positive impact to our community as a whole.

You asked quite a few questions above - let me ask you some: Have you had your 6 and 8 year old kids almost run down in the middle of the cross walk - with a crossing guard present and blowing his whistle - by a speeder who came within about 10 feet of mowing down elementary school kids who were IN THE CROSSWALK? Were you there to see the terror in the kid's/parent's/crossing guard/principal's faces when we thought the driver wasnt going to stop? This is just one instance of many dicey situations we have to put ourselves in everyday to cross what should be a relatively low-speed road.

Again, do I think this is a perfect solution? No way! But its certainly better than nothing.

So, Ill say it again - THANK YOU to those in the community who voted yes in order to at least TRY to make our roads a little safer.

What have you done lately that you think would bring positive change to the community you live in? At least some of us are trying...

CapsFan2015-What have I done lately? Well, you can thank me for the crosswalk your children walk on for one. Is that good enough for you? I can send you news article. Any other questions?

So you are OK with the crosswalks, but not the speed humps? I am very confused by all of your comments now. Are you saying the speed humps are unsightly, but not the crosswalks? Since you seem to be implying that you are the one who put crosswalks in, then yes, thank you for the crosswalks - they help keep our community safe. But crosswalks alone clearly aren't enough, since my children (and many others) almost got run-down in one less than a year ago.

You started with a lot of hostility in your first post when I was merely trying to convey my appreciation for the community stepping up and voting in favor of the speed humps. I am totally confused if you are against the speed humps or are against me thanking the community for voting for them...or both?

This is probably my own fault for engaging to begin with, and I should probably just cut and run at this point, but a genuine question would be - why was your first post so hostile? If you care about the community and safety of those crossing the street, which you clearly do if you campaigned to put crosswalks in, then why the anger towards the speed humps (and seemingly, me)?

Rockystar. I remember exactly how and why that crosswalk was installed.
Please share the article where you (whoever you are) are given credit.

If there are concerns by any residents of the exact placement of the speed humps, contact the HOA. They can be moved around a bit as long as the new location doesn’t violate VDOT rules.

The articles are pretty easy to find - so yes, Thank You rockystar for all efforts you made getting the crosswalks!! I didnt live in the community 15 years ago but I am sure they made a huge difference then and continue to make an impact. Obviously, the community now feels as if we need to go a step further.

Crosswalks help, but don’t actually slow down cars unless there is a crossing guard controlling traffic, which is only a few minutes in the morning and afternoon on school days.
Speed bumps will force drivers to slow unless they want to rattle their teeth.

Would just raising the crosswalks be an option? Seems to make the most sense to me...

Don’t know if that is in the scope of what VDOT would do, but makes sense. Accomplishes two things.

Not to take away from anything here but I noticed that people's names were attached to the list of residential addresses that were in the original link to the documents and I'm wondering if people do mind their names were published for everyone to see?

I would have thought that the county could have protected people's privacy by stripping the names from the street addresses? Just wondering...but I don't care about myself but I'm sure some may have minded that....

    Thoughts?

I did notice the address list published in the initial Study Results - Traffic Calming Info.2022 report did not match the address list published in the Affected Properties that vote - Address List. There was a variance of 169 addresses - not in the voting address list. It might be a fun deep-dive to see why there was a pivot in the list from the initial report. Maybe all impacted address were not allowed to vote? The lack of voting responses was significant. Missed postcards and the unplugged folks were not aware of the vote. Not the best process, but it is what it is.

So Demott is the only road that will get the speed humps?
