I'm not a tree hugger by any stretch but it is a little sad to see the big claws of the dozer clearing healthy trees to make way for more construction.

How many homes are going to be built in the field at the end of Vestals Gap? I hope they at least do 1/2 acre lots; houses are so close together around here.

i heard 20 homes on close to 1/2 acre lots. i also heard these will be van metre's largest homes thus far and listing for around 900k.

i'm so sad about the pond back there...

I believe they will all be in the English basement style. Since the garage will take basement space, there will be more above ground living space. I wonder if that is the basis for their larger characterization or if they are coming up with completely different homes that actually have a larger footprint.

Why are you sad about the pond? Are they getting rid of it?

while it looks like the water has been preserved the trees and the neighboring areas where things nest all got mowed down.
maybe someone from the nature center could take a look at it?

I'm so glad you posted about this! I run there every morning and meant to post this yesterday. It really makes me sad! I'm not much of a tree-hugger either, but there are so many animals that live back there!! I see them every night I drive through there.

Everyone should probably be a little more cautious as I'm sure they'll be running out onto the roads.

The area they're clearing out will have a row of houses fronting Glebe View and a court closer to Broadlands Blvd. I don't think these lots will be much bigger than the average.
The large lots that Van Metre will be developing will be south of Truro Parish between Glebe View and Belmont Ridge. This is where the more expensive homes will be.
