Yes, I admit it, I'm the biggest chicken when it comes to the dentist. I hate to go and now I have no choice but to go. I have a toothache that Vicodin, mortin and orjel combined can't make the pain go away. It's keeping me up all night. I want someone who can just knock me out and fix everything at once. I'm pretty sure I have the start of a couple other cavities as well. Thanks!

    Hazy,
I had a similar toothache over Thanksgiving weekend. I was referred to a wonderful endodontist. I did not have sedation, so I'm not sure if he does that but he gave me enough anesthetic so that I did not feel a thing (and this was for a very deep root canal, with four roots). In fact, I had very little pain even after the anesthetic wore off; I think I took Motrin once. His name is Dr. Frank Portell with Nova Endodontics in Reston. The number is 703-437-6666.

I go to Dr. Kirkpatrick in Reston. He does gas, but if necessary he works with an endodontist next door, Dr. Fields, for IV sedation. I see both of them and they helped me a lot with my fears ... even though I am still scared at least now I go regularly.

I had a terrible toothache a few weeks ago and wanted to rip my teeth out with pliers. I made an appt with an orthodontist because I thought perhaps I was clenching my jaw or something to make my teeth fell impacted. It was unbearable. I mentioned it to my doctor (we're friends) and a few other symptoms- I couldn't shake a stuffy nose. My cheek felt very sore and bruised- I thought it was from my tooth- but she said these were all classic symptoms of a sinus infection- I had never had one before so I had no idea! I cancelled my orthodontist appt and went in for an exam. I had a pretty nasty sinus infection and they put me on antibiotics- I felt a lot better in about 3 days. It was so bad that I couldn't sleep at night.
Anyway- I just thought I would put it out there since I was convinced (as was my orthodontist over the phone, at least) that it was from my teeth.
    Good luck!
P.S. Dr.Howard in Leesburg is an incredible dentist and a great friend. She works in Dr.Ray's office.
Dr.Lans in Ashburn is awesome too, and he very involved with our community- which I admire greatly!

I considered the fact that it could be sinus related or ear related since at times I feel like someone is shoving an ice pick in my ear. But, I have a chipped tooth and this tooth has hurt before so I'm pretty sure it's the tooth...or both. I have an appointment with a dentist at 11AM. Hoping he can give me some relief! Thanks everyone.
