Anyone have any recommendations for a good place to get wood blinds? So far, I've only priced them at justblinds.com but was wondering if anyone else had a good source (online or otherwise...online is generally cheaper, plus most are free shipping) for them. I've looked at thier faux, value, express, and premium wood blinds with prices ranging from 500 to 850 for the quantity/shapes I need. Anyone have a better place with a good reputation I should be looking?

I'd check out the Carpet and Blinds place next to the Buffalo Wings Factory and Shopper's .

We got our Hunter-Douglas blinds there, and at a very good price.

If you don't mind, can you give me one of your wondow sizes and what they charged for it? And the specifics, also (2" wood, tape/no tape. etc). I'd appreciate it!

Sorry Brim ... it was 5 years ago ... and I have no idea where that paperwork went to. FWIW ... they come in to measure and install.

We got ours through American Blinds (www.decoratetoday.com). They have a "best price" guarantee. We found wood blinds cheaper elsewhere, and American adjusted their price to beat it. They delivered about 26 blinds within 2 weeks.

Brim - what are the dimensions of the windows you are trying to get wood blinds for?

$500-$850 seems quite resonable to have custom wood blinds for the 11 windows you mention.

I know there are a bunch of options you can get like fancy tape, higher quality woods, and choosing the wand placement (left or right).

If you don't mind not having these customizations, check out Home Depot - you might be able to buy some of the "pre-packaged" blinds in the store with out having to do a custom order which will save you more money.

I'm convinced window manufacturers, contractors, and blind manufacturers are all in leauge with each other so you have to custom order the things. None of my windows seem to be 'standard' size that off-the-shelf blinds would fit. I really don't care about the tape (ugly) but getting colors to match the floor is important to me, along with cord placement.

This is similar to the hot dog and hot dog bun manufacturer conspiracy that also exists. :)

Are you saying that the price was $500-$800 for all of the windows you listed combined? That's like $40-$70 a window? If so, that sounds ridiculously low to me and you should buy them today.

Thats what justblinds.com spit out for several different types/grades of 2" wood blinds. I'm waiting on color/wood samples from them and then I'll buy just the smaller window and see what kind of quality it is. If it's up to snuff, I'll get the rest of them from them.

I just pulled out the wood blinds in my morning room, they made the room too dark, but mostly the center one (72") was way too heavy and the mechanics inside the blind did not last long. I would be very careful about wooden blinds, if you have a large window (like the 70" window) you may want to consider getting 2 35" blinds so they last longer. When I went to get the new blinds (honeycomb) they even recommended I do that for those blinds, because they were concerned that they would not last otherwise.

I initially shopped at Blinds to Go but received horrible service. Ended up at Next Day Blinds in Fairfax (close to Rte. 29 and 50 intersection). Very good service from the sales rep, Andrew. They measured all the windows when they said they would. Delivery and install was professional and fast (17 windows in less than an hour).

Got mine at Costco. Well actually some company that Costco setup to do business with. Great quailty blinds but I actually like my light blocking blind betters. Spent about $3k on my blinds total. Maybe a little more. The one thing about the wood blinds is that it does let some light thru.

Thanks for the recommendations. I can handle the measuring and installing myself (not rocket science) which is why I'm leaning towards mail order. I ordered the smallest window as a test from justblinds.com to check out the quality. If they suck, this way I'm only out 39 bucks. So far they've been great about sending samples and ease of ordering.

An update...I received the test window from justblinds.com (2" Premium Wood) last Friday and it's excellent. The fit is perfect and overall a quality product. They're built really nice and packed very securely (ships from Houston). Anyhow, I've ordered the rest of the blinds from them...I recommend them now.
