What is everyone paying for babysitters? Not daycare, but for a few hours on a Friday or Saturday night?

    $7-9/ hour
If you are staying out really late you might want to pay more.

SK8R - How many kids and what age is that rate for? I've never had anyone ask for less then $12 and usually they want more then that...which is insane!

I pay $5-$7. I would laugh at someone who asked for $12- a kid anyway!

I also pay $6-7/hour. I would not pay more than $8/hour/1 child, $10/hour/2 kids. I would find another sitter.

I have 3 kids and maybe that's why. Although, one is old enough to "fend for herself" and really just needs guidance, not a sitter. I'm happy to hear there are sitters out there that don't charge so much.

Where do you find reliable babysitters -- in the Broadlands newsletter or is there another source elsewhere? I'm a new mom, and I'm just now at a stage where I'd like to get a babysitter for an evening or two for my 6-month infant daughter. I'd appreciate any help you can provide me.

    Thanks,

    Lisa

My daughters babysit and list themselvesin the Association newsletter, so when
I saw this I passed the info on to them. Here's my 17 yr. old's perspective: "I usually get about 7 dollars per hour for one child, and for more than one child, $5 per hour per child. After midnight, or for children in diapers, I usually get more. It varies a bit, but in general, I don't take jobs that total less than $25. Whether 2 hours or 6, a job blocks my whole entire evening. And with a demanding academic schedule during the school year, I try to make the most of my free time."

She also siad to keep in mind the age and experience of your babysitter. When she was 14 and didn't have as much of the training, she did not ask for nor expect the same rates she charges now.

I hope some of this information is useful!
