I will make it simple 5 days after hurricane we are now starting to see massive help or I hope that is what we are starting to see.

Do I need to say more!!!!!

I am not going to debate this with some of you ignoramuses..

People floating dead and still dying 5 days after this hurricane and I will add God help us if we have a biological or nuclear attack. Or another major hurricane earthquake soon.

Yes it goes to the top Georgie boy fits the definition of the Peter Principle he is way out of his league. You don't go around during a major hurricane possibly the worst ever disaster for this country and try to continue to get support for his war during this and continue to vacation whether you are working or not..

I tell my people many times I don't want to hear any excuses all that counts are results period. Now do it do it well and smartly and quickly period or you will be replaced.

5 days for major help to these people is criminal. Yes it starts with Bush.

Now some of you go back to debate your bull**** details and get nothing done.

I am livid how Bush has handled this and the few comments of the stupidity posted here. I can only guess since we live in the DC area some of you are involved in this and are trying to justify an absolute breakdown of our government in getting needed help to these folks immediately.

Since I don’t care to win any popularity contest around here another disaster locally is about to fall upon some of you. Anyone that bought a home in the last year or so will probably see what you paid for it plummet in the next several years or so.

RENT do not buy if you may need to sell in the next few years unless your company is going to bail you out.

A little clue it does not take a rocket scientist to know why Trex is not going to relocate here and is willing to absorb the cost of that very expensive lease if necessary. So when you all sit around having a few cocktails and are bragging about how much money you have made on your home be ready soon talk how much the home is plummeting.

The big boys are already redesigning their product line and will be selling these new homes for less then the current models which may even be nicer then what you live in for less. They do that in every downturn so the ones that overpaid for the current models can’t ***** too much because they new cheaper and possibly nicer are not your home these are new models. Inside info that is already in the works!!!
Most of you here have common sense but there are a few who I will not name around here have some brain cells missing. Someone said all you do is have to ask???? What are you crazy have you not seen TV ??? “all you have do is have to ask”” now I have heard it all!!!!

Stop blaming Bush for everything, including high gas prices. If it were not for him we wouldn't have invaded Iraq, which is the second (?) largest producer of crude oil. By doing so he ensured a continued flow of oil into the country for generations to come. Without Iraqi oil, who knows how much gas prices would be now.

(He is definitely the most hard working president, imagine coming off of his 5 week vacation 48 hours after the hurricane hit. Now that's what I call leadership. I sure wish he could run for a third term.)

I have brain cells missing? There is so much lunacy in your last post it is hard to figure out which to respond to. Let me once again educate you on the National Guard (NG).

The State Area Command (STARC) is a mobilization entity in each state and territory. It organizes, trains, plans, and coordinates the mobilization of NG units and elements for state and federal missions. The STARC is responsible for emergency planning and response using all NG resources within its jurisdiction. It directs the deployment and employment of ARNG units and elements for domestic support operations, including military support to civil authorities. As with active duty forces, emergency response may be automatic or deliberate. When the NG is in a nonfederal status, the governor</u> serves as commander-in-chief of the NG in his state or territory and exercises command through the state adjutant general (TAG). While serving in state status, the NG provides military support to civil authorities, including law enforcement, in accordance with state law. The two-star generals who command the National Guard the states and territories report to the governors, not the Defense Department.</u>

Where exactly in that inforamtion does it state the President has command of the Guard units. It doesn't becuase he doesn't. There were more than 8k Louisiana National Guard troops available to the Governor at any time she wished to call them up. In fact the unit of the LA Guard was the 225th Engineer Group and it's four Engineer Battalions. A unit whose mission is perfectlty suited for disater relief. The unit's state mission is to provide personnel and equipment in support of the Governor, State of Louisiana, to safeguard life and property during disaster and emergency operations.

Why didn't she call them up to help in the evac? To her credit she did use about 800 troops to provide assitance to local authorities in New Orleans during the height of the storm, but as of Wednesday she had only activated 3500 of the almmost 8000 troops she commands directly. The Commanding General of the National Guard also said on Wed. that up to 124,000 guardsmen from 17 states were available and ready if needed.

Accodign to your logic, the President should have ordered the military into Louisiana, which would've been a direct violation of the Posse Comitatus Act. "From and after the passage of this act it shall not be lawful to employ any part of the Army of the United States, as a posse comitatus, or otherwise, for the purpose of executing the laws, except in such cases and under such circumstances as such employment of said force may be expressly authorized by the Constitution or by act of Congress; and no money appropriated by this act shall be used to pay any of the expenses incurred in the employment of any troops in violation of this section"

Only Congress can authorize the use of non-Guard military assets in other than humanitarian missions. Which all branches of the military have been providing since Sunday. If you want to blame federal officals then you can blame congress, who could've called an emergency session on Monday and suspended the Posse Comitatus Act.

Still think incremental gas prices are a drop in the bucket compared to the money taken from your paycheck week in and week out for unnecessary taxes...

yet no one seems to get upset about this amount bcause it's not posted in screaming red neon lights for all to see...just slips away every week into the unproductive arms of bureaucracy...

still, i would want to live nowhere else than America.

While driving home on 50, all the gas stations near the 66/50 exchange were charging $4.

Well with the release of more barrels from our reserves and from Europe the futures report looks good. Prices per barrel are starting to drop (Though this report is for Oct). Which makes you wonder y they were so expensive prior to the release of reserves. Something fishy is going on. Hopefully none of you were suckered into the rumor of gas shortages today. That just helps increase the price

If you take a look at the prices less than 24 hours old, Exxon and Citgo have had the best prices in Ashburn. Normally that's not the case.

I drove home today along 50 also. Different than my fellow hokie beergutvt.

Heading west on 50 past 28. Sheetz and 7-11 had prices of $3.19. I initially passed them by thinking the independent gas station just before Arcola would be cheaper. It was $3.99. They didn't even have a "3" to put up on their sign. Needless to say, I turned around and grabbed the real cheap stuff(!) Anyone have a quote from Costco in Sterling or Leesburg?

The Exxon down the street next to Giant was $2.98 this afternoon. $3.19 is kinda high.

Costco in Leesburg was $2.89 (and 9/10ths) this morning when I filled up around 8:15 but the attendant told me they were raising prices to $2.95 (and 9/10ths) within minutes.

Here was the situation earlier in the week (Tuesday):

HURRICANE KATRINA: Status Of Key Energy Facilities

    August 31, 2005 9:31 a.m.

NEW YORK -- Hurricane Katrina plowed into the U.S. Gulf Coast energy industry, shutting eight refineries and the bulk of all U.S. offshore oil and natural gas production. The current status of key facilities is outlined below:

    REFINERIES

-Valero Energy Corp (VLO) 260,000 b/d St Charles refinery in Norco, La., remains shut; suffers no serious damage, should restart in two weeks (Sep 12); but lack of power, restrictions on access limiting Valero's ability to company says.

-Motiva Enterprises 225,000 b/d Norco, La., refinery remains shut; limited access to the facility has delayed a damage assessment, company says

-Motiva Enterprises 235,000 b/d Convent, La., refinery remains shut; suffers no damage that would affect restart, but no restart estimate, company says.

-Murphy Oil Corp (MUR) Meraux, La., refinery remains shut, evacuated; company has no information on damage or restart; flooding in the area worsened Tue

-Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) 183,000 b/d Chalmette, La., refinery remains shut, evacuated; company has no information on damage or restart; flooding in the area worsened Tue

-ConocoPhillips (COP) 255,000 b/d Alliance refinery in Belle Chasse, La., remains shut; no information on damage or restart; Plaquemines Parish reports extensive damage; WBRZ-TV says were whitecaps on the water in streets in Belle Chasse, quoting State Treasurer John Kennedy; company says it's doing flyovers Tue

-Marathon Oil Corp (MRO) 245,000 b/d Garyville, La., refinery remains shut; company on Tue brought additional workers to the plant, which wasn't fully evacuated

-Chevron Corp (CVX) 325,000 b/d Pascagoula, Miss., refinery remains shut, evacuated; company plans flyover Tue; area saw severe flooding

-Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM) 494,000 b/d Baton Rouge refinery in "cutback mode," operating at reduced rates due to supply problems source says could last weeks.

-Valero Energy Corp (VLO) 86,000 b/d Krotz Springs refinery at reduced rates; company says operating at 70% capacity due to trouble getting supply through pipelines

-Premcor (PCO) 190,000 b/d Memphis refinery at reduced rates due to crude oil supply snags, source says

-Total SA (TO) cuts runs at 180,000 b/d Port Arthur, Texas, refinery, has reduced runs, but due to a problem with a hydrogen compressor, not the storm, source says

    FUEL PIPELINES, TERMINALS

-Colonial Pipeline kept mainline from Houston to Greensboro, N.C., shut Wed; company is bringing in generators to provide power, expects limited restoration of service this weekend; pipeline delivers 95 million gallons a day of fuel from the Gulf Coast to East Coast markets

-Kinder Morgan Energy Partners' (KMP) Plantation Pipeline remains shut Wed for lack of power; restart date has slid from midday Wed to midday Thu to "it's premature even to speculate," according to spokesman, as power restoration uncertain

-Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSB.LN) says Motiva joint venture's fuel terminals in Kenner, La, and Collins and Meridian, Miss, are closed due to flooding, power outages; Convent distribution terminal operating

-Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM) warns some fuel supply disruptions inevitable; company keeping retail gasoline prices at company-owned stations unchanged

-Chevron Corp. (CVX) restricting supplies of gasoline to wholesalers from its East Coast terminals

-Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSB.LN) freezes prices charged to fuel wholesalers at its terminals in storm-hit areas of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida

    CRUDE OIL SUPPLY TO REFINERIES

-Lousiana Offshore Oil Port remains shut; company says Tue no serious damage, but no power; could restart in hours if power restored; LOOP moves about 1 million b/d oil, 10% of US imports

-Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSB.LN) Capline pipeline system remains shut; system undamaged, but several pump stations lack power; no restart estimate; system moves 1.2 million b/d of crude oil from the Gulf of Mexico, imports from Gulf Coast to Midcontinent refiners

-Mississippi River traffic to be halted "many, many days," US Coast Guard says, while navigation system is repaired, channel determined clear and river deemed safe for transit; river is a source of crude oil shipments to refineries like ExxonMobil Baton Rouge

    PRODUCTION

-US Minerals Management Service says 95% daily oil output, 88% daily natural gas output shut down in Gulf of Mexico as of Tue; cumulative volumes shut in (Aug 26 to morning of Aug 30) 4.6 million barrels oil, 25.4 billion cubic feet of gas

-Port Fourchon sees no severe flooding, but siltation a concern, power is out; the key facility is needed to support the workers and equipment that will get Gulf platforms pumping again

-Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSB.LN) reports topside damage at Mars oil, gas platform, confirms photo showing what appears to be serious damage and circulating among energy traders is genuine

-Newfield Exploration Co (NFX) says its A production platform at Main Pass 138 appears lost in the storm; facility was producing 1,500 b/d

-Kerr-McGee Corp (KMG) restarting 60,000 boe/d Western Gulf output; inspecting central, eastern Gulf Tue, company says

-Seven semisubmersible rigs adrift in Gulf of Mexico, US Coast Guard says.

-Noble Corp (NE) semisubmersible rig Jim Thompson broke moorings, moved 17 miles by storm; was in main path of storm, but flyover shows no "damage of a material nature," company says

-GlobalSantaFe Corp (GSF) says all five drilling rigs in path of Katrina accounted for, though two are listing slightly and one drifted off its location and grounded in shallow waters near the mouth of the Mississippi River

    Not real pretty...

Thats probably why they are tapping into our reserves. Though the net effect of our imports or raw crude hasnt changed that much. The price is more depedent on were our gas stations get there refined oil. For instance NY doesnt get there supply from down there. The area affected by the hurricane, though it produces a decent ammount of refine oil will decrease our refined capablity by 20% or so. We have more than enough in storage to compensate for this.

Funny diddy about high gas prices. Do big truck-based SUV owners really think Hybrids are "Queer"? Well, I think filling up your truck for $120 1 to 2 times a week is irresponsible. Volkswagen TDI owners are getting over 42MPG in their Jettas and Passats. Those cars are sporty, safe, and fun to drive.
