As soon as a new restaurant or major retailer open in the area we usually have posts about what people think of it so I'll go ahead and start this one on the new Harris Teeter in Brambleton. We went there last night to check it out and it was very nice on the inside. Obviously everyone was very helpful and friendly as most grand openings are. The things I really like about it are:

    - big salad bar with lots of selections including seafood salad and grilled chicken
    - well laid out and spacious
    - pretty good selection of different things (I usually judge this by the cereal aisle!)
    - I believe it is open 24 hours which is great for late night emergencies and medicinal needs
    - two self checkout aisles (my daughter loves this)
    - most importantly it's just a mile from my house!!!!!!

Did not do much shopping to check on prices to compare vs other local groceries so can't comment on that.

The Taste of Teeter event Tuesday evening was great. I agree that the store is nice and the staff friendly (even at 1 am). I think that the prices are similar to Safeway and Giant but more than Wegmans. The produce is better than Safeway/Giant but Wegmans also wins in that category. I live in Brambleton (actually .21 miles from the store) and am happy to have it in the neighborhood. Though, I likely use a combo of Wegmans and Harris Teeter for my shopping.

Haven't been to the Teeter in Brambleton but did go to the grand opening of the one up on Rt. 7. The store was very nice looking. I used to be a loyal HTeeter shopper in North Carolina and was happy (so I thought) to have them coming here. Boy was I wrong. I found the prices (at the Rt. 7 store) to be soooo much higher than Wegmans (my new favorite store) and even higher than Giant and Safeway. I won't quote receipts here but... If you like to eat well but still need to watch the $'s I'd shop somewhere else.

    Their prices are outrageous..

I received 6 "coupons" for $10 off a purchase of $25...honestly, I am not sure it is worth the effort to go there and find $25 of reasonably priced items. Everything is WAY over priced (like 50 to 95 cents). Their stuff on sale is laughable.

For instance, they want $1.50 for a small head of lettuce. hahahahahahahaha
Scoop Away Kitty litter was "on sale" for $9. hahahahahahaha

I agree Wegmans it the best place.

I agree wegmans on average has the best prices day after day. I was at the Harris Teeter tuesday opening and me and my wife ate are way through the store hardly a soul shopping but many having the little snacks which by the time you got to the end you were stuffed. Don't really recall any snack as anything outstanding. Mentioned to the manager there were NO gutters or downspouts on the front of the building. That will be a lawsuit coming when someone slips in the rain or
ice because of no gutters. Someone screwed up there.

I just don't know how all these new stores plan to compete with wegmans everyday low prices and quality for the price. For the quality you get even wegmans butcher shop and seafood shop are not over priced. Oh I will say coke was on sale at tweeters for $2 a 12 pack which is very good and that was about it for any good deals.

They count on the fact people won't drive a few extra miles to go to another grocery store farther away.

I looked at Harris Teeter's weekly circular against Giant's and the prices were nearly identical. In fact, they had the same specials in some cases (such as 10 Stoneyfield yogurt for $5, which is better than Wegmans). Harris Teeter's site has a link to a Washington Checkbook article on local grocery stores and they were inline price-wise with Safeway and Giant but were rated more highly for quality. The article did not rate Wegmans. I agree that Wegmans has better prices on most items (but not all). None of the local grocery stores can compete with Wegmans. However, I'd pick Harris Teeter over Giant or Safeway.
