    Hello neighbors!

I've been a resident in Ashburn for a little more than a year now and have had a really tough time finding a good place to take my car for repairs. I've been sorely disappointed with both the Goodyear and the Merchants Tire and both have proved to be disastrous for my car!

Any recommendations for a good, local, honest repair shop or mechanic?

    Thanks!

What kind of car do you drive? My husband is a very good, very honest mechanic who works for a Chrysler dealer. It may not be an extremely popular opinion but the dealerships have far better training- factory training- and better parts too than most of these after market shops. I know many do not like dealers for one reason or another, but from an insider's perspective, this is where a lot of quality techs are. If you drive a Chrysler/ Dodge/Jeep auto, I can give you names of mechanics to ask for- my husband is out due to surgery right now!

Fallon Automotive. 703-478-9550. Located on Lane Ct. which is off Executive Dr. which is off Cedar Green just north of 606.

I drive only Chrysler products and have also been happy with the service department at Leesburg Chrysler/Dodge.

I drive a 97 Honda Civic - old enough to need some careful attention, but we'd like it to last us a little longer! Not in the Chrysler/Dodge line, though - thanks for the offer Becky.

I will call Craven and see what they say about the issue at hand at the moment (oil pan replacement/oil leak). Thank you L0stS0ul!

Anyone have dealings with the Carmax down the road? My husband has had good luck with them, but there is always a pretty substantial wait to get an appointment whenever I call.

I've sold 2 cars through them now. I walked in and in less than an hour I had a quote on my car that was higher than the other dealerships. Both times it was painless and we got more than we were expecting. I've not bought a car through them though so I can't comment on that. I've never called and got an appointment though. I always just walk in.

    Good luck

I recommend Fallon as well, they're honest and very good mechanics. We only buy Hondas and we keep them a long time and they've performed all necessary work on them.

    For Ford Explorer owners:

Anyone have a shop to recommend to get the timing chain replaced? Want a Explorer friendly shop. Need the chain cassettes replaced too.

JenTimC - do you work there? Or have you actually taken your car there for repairs? This looks like an advertisment to me, so I was curious.

Judging by their web site, it seems they work on top end cars.... might not be a place to take your 96 explorer, but who knows.. =)

It's my husband's place so I guess it was an advertisment but at the time the thread was started it wasn't open yet so it wouldn't have done any good to tell people about it[8D].

They will work on your 96 Explorer:D. Being a new place, they're not going to be snobs about what they work on (and once a customer, always a customer).

I took my 98 XLT explorer SOHC to Mike Fallon's place off of Ox Rd. Guys were very friendly and knowledgable about the work. Price was the usual for a shop. Not too bad for having someone else do the work. I work on cars myself but lately I haven't had the time to turn a wrench.

Been around cars since I was in high school, my advice is to surf the car forums on the internet. There's probably a forum for every make and model of cars. People on the forum will tell you places that are good and place to avoid. With pics of bmws (M3) I'll say these guys at FunktionAuto are probably competing with Curry Auto.

For those who are car nuts, I just order the ScanGuage last night. Opinions? Did I just waste $130? I have a pocketlogger for my Eclipse/Talon and love it. I figure I get a ODB2 reader incase my Explorer acts up.
