I'm just going to throw this out... Has anyone ever had a vet recommend ear ablation surgery for a very allergy prone dog? If so what was your experience and/or did you go through with the procedure. Thanks.

Our Westie had it done a few years ago due to hopeless ear infections. It's basically a removal of the ear canal and it certainly worked, but she was in a lot of pain for a few days afterwards. Dr. Langenbach at the Verterinary Surgical Center in Vienna performed it. The only concern I had was that the nerve that held her ear erect was severed so she had one ear up and one flopped down. That earned her the nickname of Dobie the house elf.

My dog's ear was terrible- nothing worked. I got online and founf Zymox- if you have not tried it- its worth it. I told my vet we were going to buy some and she said to go for it. Within days, her ears were better and never got bad again. She barely had an opening into her ear canal and was very swollen for more than a year. I found it online but I think some vets may sell it now.
