Thanks Neil. You said it better than I could. As always, a voice of reason here.

I'm rather startled that you seem to find this to be acceptable behavoir. I would think that dog owners would need to prevent their pets from touching anyone on a public trail, jogging, running or otherwise. This is the pet owners reponsibility, not other trail users.

My husband and I have 2 german shorthaired pointers.
We were walking the paths on Sunday when we came upon 3 people with 5 dogs between them.
Since one of our dogs was bitten recently by a person who did not control their dog, we stepped to the side and attempted to pass them when one of the women with 2 dogs says "oh look! let's go meet those dogs".
I cannot believe how clueless this woman was when it was clear were trying to avoid their pack...

My goodness...why are folks so agressive about dog issues?? Wether it's dog poo, joggers, types of leashes..etc

This is the most dog "unfriendly" neighborhood we have ever lived in! When we move this Spring I must say I will not miss Broadlands

We're not dog unfriendly, we're 'uncaring/unthinking owner' unfriendly. A dog will do what a dog will do, the owner should have the responsiblity to clean up after the dog, control the dog, and protect their neighbors FROM their dog.

That said, anyone running or jogging up to a owner and a dog should make their presence known in some way, or take a detour around them.

Dixie, I doubt Broadlands will miss you either. Hope you enjoy your new community better.

Ahhhh Dixie, there are smarty pants like me all over the world! Get used to it. :)

And for the record, you more or less slammed the community where I LIKE to live. We are not perfect, but IMO we are better than most communities in the D.C. area. Oh, I have lived in NoVa for 35+ years and have experienced many communities.

T8erman, I just can't resist...I too have lived on both Coast's and in the middle of this great country...plus Italy for four years and Belgium for one year and onto the UK in the Spring so I like to think I'm pretty well rounded for my 45+ years! I've had many neighbors in my time and am just baffled at the attitude of most in the Ashburn area. It's like they think they are "famous" or "special" I've not seen anything like it even out in California!

Anyway, I think it's just kinda sad to have to "get used to" people being unpleasant and neighbors that would rather look the other way than smile and wave. I don't know, maybe I just was unlucky and moved onto a bad street.

Dixie, didn't you know? We ARE "special" in The Broadlands.

Unfortunately, I think you did move onto a bad street or at least one neighbor (damn French!) makes it bad. We have lived in B-lands since 96 and the two streets we have live on were very pleasant. Our current street is loaded with kids and we ALL look at for them.

Hey now, we don't have to drag the French into this. They're busy dousing the car flames.

We are getting off topic here. This was originally about BRIM and his hatred for dogs.

Check out his other posts below:
    One final message to BRIM:
If my dog mounts you, just let him finish.

    Thanks.

    uhh...wtf

If your dog tried to mount me it would only be because he learned it at home and wasn't stopped there, either.

Perhaps you should find a new agenda and leave me be.

edit: Two points; this thread was 'originally' about someone's dog snapping at a jogger, and neither one of those comments were 'dog hating'. The antifreeze comment had a smiley indicating sarcasm, and the ultrasonic thingis a method of bark control and doesn't hurt the dog. That being said, I really don't like dogs, but your two examples don't prove anything. Now, go back to letting your dog bury his bone.

Wow. I can't Imagine that someone would actually search through old posts to see what Brim's supposed opinion is about dog's. Seems to me that glockenspiel has too much time on his/her hands.

The world would be a better place if all dog owners just simply assumed from the git go that the rest of the world wants nothing to do with their pet, their pets waste, barking, curiosity, aggression or perceived protection needs of it's master.

    Brim,

I'd be interested in hearing more about how you used one of those ultrasonic bark deterrents on a neighbor's dog. I've been looking at them for a while now but didn't want to fork out the money for it if it wasn't going to do any good.

It was actually my parents. It's a small box mounted outside and when it datects the dog barking emits the ultrasonic tone. If you're able, mount it as close to your property line as possible while remaining hidden (assuming you want to use it on a neighbors dog).
