    Hi All,

My apologies if this has already be asked (I promise I did a search first!). We'd like to replace our carpeting and have new carpet and/or hardwood installed. We replaced the carpet in our old townhouse and used Lowes. Price was good, but I wasn't happy at all with the installation. Any recommendations? Our realtor recommended Abbey Carpet- has anybody used them?

    Thanks for your help!

I've used Sterling Carpet for both hardwood and carpet installation and was very pleased with them. I worked with Jim Dougherty as our salesperson.

Thanks Maeve. Here's a dumb question (I seem to be full of them today)- do they let you take home samples? That's one of my biggest hangups about buying carpet. The color might look great in the store, but how will it look in regular light vs. flourescent and up against your wall color and furniture.

I don't think we took a sample of the carpet home but we did take a sample of engineered hardwood home (at the time we were considering it for the basement). Based on that, I can't imagine that they would have a problem with taking a carpet swatch home. As for the hardwood, we did that on the stairs and they matched the finish on the existing floors in the house.

We have used Abbey exclusively since the mid-90's for our carpet, hardwood, and laminate. Call and ask for Fred (703.450.8181 ext. 104). He's attentive, not pushy and gives great design advice (if you ask him for his opinion). Fred will come out to your house with all of the samples you've selected from the store and you can compare them against your furniture and wall paint in your lighting.

See my posts under "hardwood flooring" about a new source for flooring available to Broadlands residents.

We'll I have to say I wasn't very impressed with Abbey Carpet. We live in the M&S Magic Collection townhouses and want to do hardwood on both flights of stairs, hallway upstairs, bedrooms and LR/DR combo. I contacted Abbey Carpet to schedule them to come out on 12/27 since I would be off to meet with them. They never showed up, when I called them I told the person I spoke with that I had an appointment and no one showed up. He asked who I spoke with and I told him it was him. He denied the appointment or ever speaking with me. I told him I knew it was him because he has a very distinctive accent. He proceeded to tell me since it was over the phone there was no way I would recognize his voice. I informed him I do speak to people on the phone all the time and I do recognize voices. Needless to say when he asked if I wanted to reschedule the answer was a flat NO and I hung up.

I did go to Image Flooring by MCI on Red Rum and Phil was very helpful and did an estimate based on the plan drawings I had from when we purchased our house. I also had the hardwood stain colors we used in the family room and kitchen. We are in the process of formalizing everything and plan to have them do the installation.

Sorry this is so long....but hope it is helpful

Can I ask what you were quoted for this, ballpark? We're in the M&S Magic Series as well, and are doing one set of stairs and one room in hardwood, and the 3rd floor in carpet. I almost had a heart attack when we got the quote...

We have been very pleased with Phil at Image Flooring- he is the best I have found- in terms of price, service and general knowledge. And he is just nice.
