Hi, I am new posting to the forum although I read frequently. Does anyone here have berber carpet? How do you like it? Does it vaccum easily? What about cleaning methods - i.e. can you steam clean or chem-dry it just like regular carpet?

It depends on the quality of berber that you have (or are planning on getting). We purchased our house and only upgraded to the first level of berber. We didn't like it at all. The loops get easily pulled out by pets, etc. If you are planning on getting a good quality berber, your experience will probably be better.

We ended up replacing our cheap berber with a better quality short-shag. We like the retro feel :)

It also depends on the fiber -- we had a high end wool berber in one house, but wool can stain easily and then be hard to clean (especially when the roof leaks... don't ask).

We've had an inexpensive white flecked berber with a pattern for 10 years in our family room...two boys and a cat with all claws later, we don't regret it for a minute. There are no stains and no rug pulls. Maybe the pattern has helped.

We have berber with 3 kids and a dog and have had no issues with it at all! I haven't had to steam clean it. We've only been here a year. I had to use oxi clean on it once to get a mud stain out but it worked fine and no side effects. No regrets here! We like it alot!

We steam clean once a year. Have never added the post-purchase stain-prevention treatments.
