They are taking the stop signs down now. Saw a couple people still treat it as a 4-way stop and the horns were honking. Be careful!!

I guess our hopes that this would resolve problems at the intersection were just wishfull thinking.

I just went through the intersection with the lights all working. The light my direction was red, so I and two other cars stopped. Then the one car proceeded straight through the light, while still red, because they couln't wait for the light to change!

If I wasn't in the wrong lane (making a left turn), I would have followed the car and posted the license plate number here.

    The Ashburn attitude shines again!

I was out yesterday on my motorcycle and saw a woman blow through that intersection -- because she was READING either a paper or magazine. And I'm sure if a kid ran infront of her, she would complain that the kids parents did not watch them close enough....it could never be her fault for reading...ugh.

I said it before... IMO the only positives I can see from both lights is that the rush hour situation will be somewhat better at Broadlands Blvd and the difficulty of a 4-way stop will be removed for those drivers who struggle with the with the concept.

You can have accidents just as easily at a light as you can at a 4-way stop. I am also curious to see if the accidents that WILL happen will be worse as certain individuals speed to try and beat a light.

Ironically, when they turned on the traffic lights, they pulled down the "New Traffic Pattern" signs approaching the intersection.

Well ... they've been blinking for over 5 days, people should know by now that there's been a traffic pattern change .. and should have been expecting the full light cycle eventually ..

Of course, it could all be a mirage, and this thread is actually the other traffic light thread that we should be posting in ...

Personally I would have thought that people would naturally "STOP" there seeing as there were stop signs before and then they would not be "surprised" by the light. You would think no one would be surprised by a bright red light but this is Ashburn.

You know what neil? Who made you forum police? That traffic light thread is 50 some pages long and I thought that this was important enough to have it's own thread so those that left yesterday morning for work when the lights were blinking would know what to expect when they got home.

Yes its important, and any post to the traffic lights topic would have appeared at the top of the list when someone checked for new topics, thus they would have gotten the information.

But I also said it in as part of a jest:

"Of course, it could all be a mirage, and this thread is actually the other traffic light thread that we should be posting in ... "

Pardon me for trying to keep some semblance of order and continuity.

So this evening at 6pm, I'm waiting in the left turn lane on northbound Claiborne to turn westbound on Waxpool. I'm the second car in line.
We get the left turn arrow, and a car waiting to proceed southbound on Claiborne goes through the light and almost hits the car turning left in front of me. I even glanced up at the light to be sure he had the red.
    Be careful out there!!!!

I have also witnessed people running the red light. I think Deputy Dawg needs to sit there for a bit and generate revenue for the County.

Yea, you know those volunteers from the Technology Committee? Yea, those folks. Or did you think this website and these forums run all by themselves?

I would of thought you of all people would have a little bit more tact and respect for the folks who help out with what the HOA does, like this website. It's comments like the one you just made that really tick me off.

Fine, another thread about the traffic light was started. I'll get right on it sir! You know, us moderators have no life and spend all day looking over these forums, monitoring every single posting. To hell with our day jobs!

Neilz, I would like you to apologize to the Technology Committee as well as the volunteers who spend their free time helping out with this website. You're comment was offending to me as a volunteer and a moderator...

I apologize to everyone else for posting this here, but I couldn't let a comment like the one made by Neilz to go by without a response...

If you would like Neilz, I can move this discussion to its own thread if you want to keep it going...

OK .. cheap shot .. meant as a joke.

However, word of advice from someone who was a 'sysop' on an old dial-up system back in the 80's:

Don't let every little dig, or nudge send you off posting on the boards, it looks petty. Send an email, works just as well, and often you'll find out that what you took as offense, was just a joke.
Just let them glide off. If I got upset at every cheap shot that was taken at me here, I'd be drinking Pepto on a daily basis.

Try and keep associated threads together, and merge where they should be merged. You don't need a bunch of different threads on a subject, much like the ones a few years ago on the h***ital !!

We all appreciate the work you guys have done here ... don't think we don't. Which is why, as a board member, I try to put the stop to incipient flame wars before you have to. One less thing for you guys to worry about.

And finally ... it was a JOKE for cripes sake !!

Neilz, word of advice from someone who ALSO was a dial-up BBS sysop in the 80's:

If you want something you say to be interpreted as a joke, use a smilie. You use them LIBERALLY everywhere else and you didn't in this case. Personally, I think you meant what you posted and now you're back-tracking.

As for having every little dig send me off posting on the boards, take a look at your post count and then look at mine. I rarely post when I take offense to stuff, but when the comment comes from a member of the HOA Board and insinuates that we're not doing our volunteer 'job', yea, I'll take offense, especially when it's posted in public for everyone to read, and definately doesn't look like a 'joke'.

And same goes to you; if you didn't like my initial comment, you could have emailed me directly or Private Messaged me via the forums. You chose to post your so-called 'joke' in public, and as such, I had to defend the position of the Technology Committee in public. Not everyone reading these forums understands your 'unique' sense of humor. Heck, I still don't.

We've been at odds with you before and I would have thought that, by now, you would have thought twice before making a posting like the one you did.

Let's just leave it at that. As a moderator, I don't want this thread hijacked by our disagreement. End of discussion.
