My Openband is working just peachy, in case anyone cares.

[that was for Neil, who always finds a chance to remind us Southern Walk'rs about how horrible Openband is]

Sorry 'bout your troubles, '84. What are your typical speeds?

No, I've never said they were horrible, I've always said that I'd never buy in an HOA that required me to have phone/internet/video without any competition, without an out for 25 years. And that you still have to pay the full fee, even if you don't use their video or phone access.

Right now I'm getting 2174 down / 422 up on my Adephia. And most of that is because my network goes through my firewall computer which does tend to slow down the transfer.

However, I'm not against using one company to provide all my services. On my move to Pittsburgh, I had the option of having Verizon, AT&T and Comcast as my phone provider, the same for my internet access, and Comcast or Dish as my video provider.

I was able to shop around for services. Come to find out that Comcast will be the cheapest to provide all three services. 160 channels cable (HD-DVR included), 6 Mbps/768 Kbps (ok, so not as fast as OB), and phone with unlimited long-distance (2 lines) for $149.00 a month.

Trying to get the same with Verizon providing the internet & phone and Comcast cable (no FIOS there yet) $179.00 .

I'm in the townhomes area by Claiborne and Vestals Gap; Adelphia speeds are fine on this end...

Something is going on. I'm getting ~40% packet loss to everywhere.

I can't even run a speed test tonight. I was running one, and the download test worked okay (2700kbps). But the upload test never ran. It timed out. I can't even load the speed test page. It's painfully, painfully, painfully slow right now. Like dialup.

About half the d/l speed it normally is.

What speed test website are you using? I'm getting comparable downloads, but it keeps dying before the upload test. I'm using speakeasy's speed test which is usually reliable, but maybe it's having trouble today. I've even tried running it in different browsers, and it doesn't complete (I waited for 15 minutes on one test).

I going to have to break down and call Adelphia. I'm sure they'll have me reboot the modem several times (which I've already done) and the PC several times (which I've done, too). Sigh.

I chatted with a support rep over the web, and he said he found a problem in our area. He was sending it over to the engineers. No ETA on a fix.

    Sigh.

That's what I used, too. The speedtest dies in the middle. Oh well, I already know Adelphia is having problems.

I'm just using simple ping tests. 38% packet loss to www.yahoo.com.

    Dismal...

    Packets: Sent = 69, Received = 47, Lost = 22 (31% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 8ms, Maximum = 25ms, Average = 11ms

Not here. I still can't even complete a speed test. Websites fail to load or load very slowly.

Well, it took 14 minutes to complete, but I have successfully completed a speedtest. "Successfully" is a relative term, though. The download speed was not so bad, but upload speed is downright pathetic:

    Last Result:
Download Speed: 2419 kbps (302.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1 kbps (0.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

Yep. 1 kbps. I'm giving up now.

Better download, but still pathetic upload:

Download Speed: 3993 kbps (499.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 7 kbps (0.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

I just spoke to tech support, and they told me that the outage has been re-classified as "minor". Once I stopped laughing, the rep told me that "minor" is the step before the close the incident. Of course, he couldn't offer an ETA on the completion of the work.
