I personally do not want my monthly HOA dues going up either. As much as I agree that not being allowed into the pool was a huge inconvenience, it does appear to have leveled off a little bit and I really don't think that being turned away had anything to do with the outside memberships. Besides, I like all of the extra things that the HOA has been able to purchase with the revenue derived from otuside memberships. I will definitely keep this past experience in mind around future holidays and stay away from the pools during peak hours.

That only accounts for the amount going to the overall budget. We generate another $15,000-$20,000 a year that goes back into pool equipment/improvements.

As was pointed out about Memorial Weekend, you most likely would have been turned away anyways, since the pools were farther over capacity that the guest pass members there. What's your solution to this? Having a lottery and limiting the number of Broadlands residents that get pool passes to ensure that there is never ever any possibility of the pools not reaching capacity?

Please feel free to contribute to the HOA fund at any time. I imagine you could drop off your check at the Nature Center. However, don't forget to contribute enough for all HOA members if our dues need to go up just because you were unable to get into the pool on a holiday weekend. I can't imagine how you were able to manage through such a difficult time...

Give the guy a break. I would have been mad too, but not if it were only residents. Others on here have supported a moratorium on holidays so he is not off base. It's just the sand in the eye when you know you non-residents are using your pool, when they probably could use their own. [Guests of residents are not an issue].

And I have seen other HOAs that made you buy into the pool at $400 when you buy your house or you can't get to use the pool at all [ever] so be thankfull for the additional revenue. A happy median solution has been suggested several times.

Last time I checked, I live in Broadlands and pay monthly HOA fees, so I'm not a non-resident!

I think the answer has already been stated above, keep outside pool membership, but restrict acces to non-holiday events. It can be done, and the staff would just need to be reminded of the importance of checking passes during the restricted times.

If they had their own pool.. why would they buy a broadlands pool pass? :) That's big bucks to pay just for a 'better' pool

But its been beat to death.. the problem wasn't outside pool passes. The problem was more residents then usual tried to goto the pool at once.

The suggestions about limiting passes will not change the fact that at any time, the pools can be at capacity with residents alone. If someone is going to be upset that we don't have a 1 to 1 resident to pool capacity.. then I suggest they install their own pool to garuntee their pool access :)

The suggestions for improving the outside pass program are welcome, and those against it all together are free to express their opinion.. especially to the board.. and the ELECTED resident members. But don't mix apples and oranges. If you beef is you couldn't get in the pool.. then your beef is Broadlands doesn't have enough pools.. which isn't going to change unless someone starts making generous grants to the community :)

If the list of waiting people was 40.. and only 20 outside members were there.. do I need to spell it out? You still couldn't get in if those 20 outside members were not there. So lets drop it already.

AGAIN.. that would have not pevented the pools from hitting capacity. What do we do.. start kicking your neighbors out? Start limiting stays at the pool?

You guys are barking up the wrong tree.

So many people around here bark just because they can. Start hitting these barkers in their wallet and they'll shut up pretty quickly.

Some of you have missed the point. I have stated several times the pools being full from residents OK. Pools full with mix of non-residents on holidays - not ok. Getting extra $$$ from non-residents is good. As long as the pools are on average under capacity. This is not a hard concept to grasp people.

Homer.. even with the outside pool people GONE.. the pools were still over capacity. The outside people were NOT A FACTOR. There were more people waiting then there were outside members in the pool. Plus.. the pool was over capacity before they cut people off.

    So.. lets connect the dots..

no outside people.. pools still over capacity = people still turned away.

    How do we know that?

I'm not trying to be contentious but I really don't understand how we know how many outside people are *using* the pool if the guards aren't consistently collecting passes, the passes aren't counted and capacity is determined by counting people (who as far as I know are not tattooed with their residential status).

Granted, we know how many outside memberships have been sold but not how many are in use at any given time unless there is a different method of data collection being used other than what has already been stated.

The only pool that was not collecting passes was the summerbrooke pool which outside members do not have access to and though they were not collecting them they wre looking at them. Both Community Center and southern walk pool were collecting passes and I had the head manager ( who I believe is now a partial owner of NV pools ) count the outside passes herself at both the community pool and at southernwalk pool to make sure I had an accurate count. (I did not wnat to rely on the gaurds to be accurate) I do know however that some broadlands residents that showed there drivers liscenes were able to get in the 1st weekend as they had not been able to pick up there pool passes but there were no outside members that could get in that way. We always give some leaway for the 1st 2 weekends so that any residesnt who forgot to get there passes or thought they knew where they were only to find out they are missing can still get in.

Steve: You are correct and I have supported that logic all along. But the problem isn't with it being overcrowded.

The problem is pyschological. We are home owners who pay dues, in effect these are OUR pools and OUTSIDERS are in them and we can't get in. Like I said, if it were all homeowners, there would be no problem. It's pool rage ;)

But I thought that it was said that the only outsiders, were those brought in by insiders ??

So .. how does that justify pool rage ?

Maybe, maybe not. Guests of Homeowners are fine, but there are too many reports of lax ID enforcement to pass the smoke test. But what Staci said applies only to Summerbrooke. The SW pool is open to outsiders who buy their way in.

I guess this is what I was meaning too. It is a perception issue. If only residents can get in on holidays, and if it is over-crowded, then no one can complain. Still sell outside pool memberships, still reap the benifits, provide the assurance that if you as a homeowner are kept out on holidays, its due to other homeowners, not outside members.

    Its all about perception.

I know this is probably going on too long, but as a fairly new user to the forums I wanted to share one impression. I was suprised to see the degree of and character of the short-temper and sarcasm type treatment that Brosowalk received... It is just that I did not expect to see that type of treatment on this kind of a forum... maybe I need to be around this forum longer, but I am just saying that - in my opinion, this community forum should not be the place to flame someone who was expressing frustration (seemed like flaming to me). This will basically result in some people not wanting to comment for fear of response. Now this should work both ways - and Brosowalk expressed sarcasm, but it was obvious and not aimed at a particular person.

I appreciated flynnibus response to my posting, it was analytical, pointed out some weaknesses in my points, clarified some statements and provided generally the type of remarks that I would characterize as an example of a good reply. The type of responses that Brosowalk got were bad examples...:(

sorry if this is a little patronizing, but thought it still better to share my impression and disappointment with the discussion. But I think this thread has brought to the table some great ideas and I do think there is an "issue" that can be raised at the next meeting - and supported by many of the people that have responded here.

    thanks - Dave

Sarcasm is not the exception, it is the norm! :D

And this thread is extremely mild sarcasm-wise compared to others. IMHO, to "regularly" participate in these forums one must have a tad bit of thick skin and/or not take everything so personally. Quite often people will read in emotion when none was intended.

And if you do post something that does get flamed or slammed, may I recommend that you not run away, but fight back or simply ignore the post.

Remember, EVERYONE has an opinion, good or bad. And just because someone may disagree with you it does not mean that they are flaming you.

Compare the early replies to the later ones.. the later ones are because people selectivly quoted people skipping key points, made exaggerated claims, and chose to ignore or disagree with underlying facts.

There is a type of personality that appears online a lot where people roar like a lion, but are quite as a mouse when it comes to actually resolving the issue. This is compounded by the incredibly low interest and turn out given to community driven and owned groups in our community who's task it is to address and voice concerns over these issues. If it bothers you that much, please do something about it. You don't have to dedicate your life to it, simply make a phone call, or send a letter, or make an appearence.

The forum is great for voice opinions, but unless we go through the efforts to verify resident status (which we have discussed and decided against due to technical issues and workloads) the forums will not be a qualified conduit to formally get your thoughts to the board.

If even Homer can make proper contact with the board.. anyone can :D
