Has anyone had their driveway sealed? I'm looking to get this done before winter. I got a thing in the mail the other day from Collegiate Sealers. The quote they gave on the card was $85.00. That seems like a steal to me. Has anyone used them before?

    Thanks

Yes, they did a good and a neat job while we were at work. I'd recommend them.

About 6 of our neighbors went in on it together and got a $71 rate with them. They did a great job.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like a good company. I'll give them a call. I'm always skeptical of ads that show up in my mailbox.

    Thanks again

I gave them a call and the next week they came out and sealed our driveway. Could not ask for better service. The price was exactly as they quoted and we could actually use our driveway within 24 hours.

    Thanks

Sorry to sound stupid, but I've never had experience with a blacktop driveway! I know you're supposed to seal it but why? What does the sealer do exactly? How often and when should it be done? Thanks.

The one thing you have to remember though, is if you have a new home, with an asphalt drive less than a year old, do NOT seal it. Wait until the drive is a year old.

This info came off a pail of sealant I used last year. Evidently, even asphalt has to cure.

Builder just recently (last week) put in the top/final coat of asphalt. How long should I wait before sealing it? Do I gotta wait for 1 year? How long have y'all waited before sealing?

I generally recommend waiting a minimum of 90 days to seal new asphalt. Freshly paved asphalt is softer, and gradually hardens over time. If you seal it too soon, you may hamper the curing (or hardening) of the asphalt. Many of my customers, get anxious and want to seal it right away. But wait at least 90 days, even if you have to wait until next spring.

Waiting a full year is not necessary, but would not harm the asphalt either. To anyone else who is interested, the weather is normally warm enough to seal for about another two weeks. If your house is shady or northern exposed, you already need to wait until next spring.

    Thanks
