I wanted to share an excellent experience I had today at a nail salon, Victoria Nails & Spa, located in the Truro Parish shopping center near Broadlands(the sage green strip center). There are new owners, Dai and John, as of August 1st. It used to be named Elite Nail.

Greeted nicely upon first entering, I could tell the customer service level surpassed other nail salons around, hands down.

I noticed the place was very clean and appealing; and that for each customer the nail tech opened a fresh sanitized pack of tools. I asked about this as I am concerned about salon cleanliness and this process is to promote the top level of health by cleaning, sanitizing and uv cleaning of tools. More than a normal salon. The environment was relaxing, orchids and instrumental music. There are six pedicure throne chairs!!

To also promote the top level of cleanliness no razors are used. The reason being that to promote long term health of the foot only callus cream and a buffing bar (like a pumus) are used. This is also for foot safety. My feet are very smooth!

The BEST THING there is a weekly Little Princess Day on Tuesdays where when a mom/Grandma/Aunt buys at least a $15 service the preschool aged girl along with her receives a free nail polishing and a couple of design appliquees applied on her nails. HOW FUN!

A combination manicure/pedicure is about $40 and the Spa Version is $55. The latter was the one I chose, and it was just as pampering as the Aveda or Elizabeth Arden Red Door version for half the price.

There was a 10% coupon in the Broadlands Community News Mailer recently.

Dai, one of the owners, told me he loves to host parties as well. For those of you who need a fresh new idea on where to host, he says he recently hosted a baby shower where the guests received a discount on nail services. There are additional benefits to hosting at his place.

Lastly, I wanted to also mention that this nail salon prides itself on extraordinary customer service. I was made to feel special. I will definitely be a return customer. By the way loved the OPI polish, Will You Mariachi Me, a great light choice for fingernails with a pink light brownish tint.

Thanks for the recommendation. Fact is, all the nail salons in this town are just ridiculously expensive. I used to be able to get a 25-30 dollar mani/pedi combo, until I moved to Loudoun, now for 40 bucks a pop, I feel bad even going once a month. I don't understand why certain things like that are SO expensive around here, and they don't even have any special days or anything. Anyway, I live really close to there, so thanks for the recommendation if I do decide to splurge.

It's because we live in Ashburn....or otherwise known as "Cashburn".

yeah, yeah, i know, it's just ridiculous though, i mean simple supply and demand would show that if it were only say 30 bucks, i'd probably get them done twice as often, therefore the business makes more money in the long run anyway and has a happier customer.

Sounds great. Will have to try it. Thank you!

Yes, too bad some prices around here are out of hand. I attribute to snowball effect. The nail salons (or whatever business) also have to afford the high cost of rent as well as a place to live around here.

While I do really like this area, I guess if I could make it the land of make believe I'd wish real estate, both commercial & residential were a little more affordable like other places we've lived with comparable salaries.
Though I am sure some folks are thrilled about homes appreciating so quickly over the past years I am not sure it is the best thing overall??

Personally, we have been blessed and I am thankful. However, I do think it is too bad that prices/appreciation/taxes are not more "normal" (though I guess that is a relative statement). Makes for a nice community when folks have more time as well as money to spend on leisure activities (and nail appts) rather than running ragged and possibly pumping more than they'd like to into a house. Just a thought...

    Ladies--

I use Sterling Nails at Dulles Crossing Shopping Center and use any of the girls for my manicures and pedicures. Full SPA Manicure and Pedicure is $39.00. Great service and opens at 9 am Saturdays. They are open 7 days a week. Phone number is (703) 421-9315.

I have used every one at one time or the other. Full service salon and all girls do great work!

You can also look for reviews for local services of all products from local businesses on backfence.com (Backfence posts reviews of all consumer information of all types for Metro VA areas.)

First, I want to introduce myself to the board members. My name is John, part owner of Victoria Nails Spa. Dai just told me about the forum and I found this site thru the search.

    jburrowshr,

Thank you very much for the kind words. We are very glad that you had a pleasant experience with your visit at our salon. This is our second salon in Loundoun county since we moved here. Our other salon is out by Leesburg Premium Outlet mall with the same name. Our goal is to offer a friendly neighborhood salon, provide the services at a reasonable prices.

    SMHEESE/TYGER31,

We hear you lound and clear about the prices :). We also are new resident here in the community, 3 mins from the salon, and yes I have to agree with you all that we don't have cash to burn. The rent around Ashburn and Broadlands area are higher than most surounding area, except Landsdowne and Brambleton town Center. This is a very competitive biz as you can see the number of salons poping up every where. We have to keep our prices a an acceptable level so it will benefits both clients and the owners.

You have recommended the lower price so client can enjoy more frequent visit. We thought about that also but ended up not offering more choices on our services. For example, all our Classic Pedi and Mani included parafin treatment free of charge. We could offer so called Express Mani/Pedi for lower price but found that it doesn't work. We have tried it out with our other salon but found that most client will go with the one that included the parafin wax treatment so we dropped the other service off of our menu.

    Foodie,

We are glad to hear that you are happy with Ann, the new owner, at Sterling nails. Iwe are sure that they must be good in order to win you over and speak highly of them. Foodie, we think that you probably mistaken or didn't know about all of their services/prices when you said they offer $39 for a Spa Mani/Pedi package when you compare their price to ours. The Mani/Pedi Spa you've mentioned above is the eqivalent to our regular Mani/Pedi package at our salon. Being in this biz, we can tell you that the naming of the services and the treatments included in each service can be confused and are differ from salon to salon. Sterling Nails is currently owned by Ann's Nails in Sterling and most, if not all, of their services and prices are the same at both of their locations and we are very familiar with their services and prices. Being in this biz, we do not want to price ourselves out of the market but also don't want to come up short by the end of the month either. we only want to set the record straight about the prices because we don't want other readers to think that we are outragously over price from reading your post.

One thing that we are very pround of ourselves is the cleaniness and sanitation procedure we employed in our salons. Not too many salons out there will 'sanitize and clean' the Pedicure spa after *each* client. What we will see them doing all the time is just to clean the Tub out with soap or some other disinfectant. What about all the *used water* in the Jet tubings from the previous client? You guessed it, it is in your new batch of water that you are soaking with. Please ask them on your next visit to see when was the last time they *sanitize* the internal components of the tubs, not just clean the surface of the tub, and deep soaking their tubs to see if they even meet the State Board requirements. We understand the important of the santitation procedures and we pledge to follow the rules.

Once again, thank you everyone for making us welcome in the community and please do feel at home whenever you visit us. We are very receptive to comments and suggestion so please feel free to drop us an email and/or talk to one of us at the salon.

I hope that this post does not sound too commercial on this site. Mod, please accept my appology if I am crossing the line.

    Sincerely,
    John

    John and others--

Thanks for responding to my post on Sterling Nails. I am pleased with their services and they do offer both for hands and feet--the paraffin wax treatments. They are very sanitary in their instruments, pedicure arm chairs, and all services that I have used in the past.

Since I am (by profession) a food scientist and pursuing post grad work in Consumer Education, I am always looking for new business people to use for various services. After the birth of my twins in late November, I will be happy to give your salon a try for my manicures and pedicures. Thanks for your input. Sterling Nails does a thorough job at their salon.

    Foodie,

First of all, congratulation on the comming twins. I am a father of 3 girls myself. Yes, they are a handfull but they are the joy of my life :).

After my post, I was hoping that it will not come across too strong. I am glad that you didn't take it that way. Like I said, Ann owns and operates a very reputable biz. I was refering to other Nail shops around the area. I was not targeting her salon in my post. I was just trying to point out the diff in prices and services between us.

We are more than glad to have you at our salon and hope that we can prove to you and the Broadlands community that we are not just another salon around the corner. We depend on the support of the community so we do give it back to the community. If you notice, we don't advertise in big news paper or highly priced Clipper Magazine. We do lots of contribution to most local/community clubs and organizations. We did it the with the other salon out in Leesburg and we pledge to do the same at this salon for the Broadlands/Ashburn community.

Just to give some background about us, my wife, Victoria, Dai, and I were all working for a very large Telecom company in Ashburn. Dai's wife, Lynn, a pharmacist from Norway, moved here after they got married. We were either victim of scandals, you know which one by now :), or tired of corp life so we decided to venture out and open our own businesses. We always searching for ways to improve our services and will listen to our clients. Cleaniness and sanitation are our top priority. If we messed up Clients nails, that can be fixed but our clients health are irreplaceable. Continuing education for our techs also our priority. The nails industry does get more and more advance with their products and the proper use of their products is a must.

Again, I do appologize if my previous post read to be attacking your favorite salon. It wasn't my intention. I would love to have an in person conversation with you when you come in. My writing has been known to not to friendly but I am trying very hard to be as friendly as possible without offending anyone :). Believe or not but I am still learning English every day, some time I learn from my teenage girls from Broadrun HS. What a shame :(

    Cheers,
    John

PS: Now I now why your screen name is Foodie :)

I am impressed enough with your post - I am willing to give it a try. I don't get as many ped/man as I use to based on price, but I do like an occasional treat and would be interested in bringing my little girl in with me on Tuesdays. I bet she would adore the attention. Do you recommend appointments for Tuesdays?

    Hberg,

Thank you very much for giving us the oppotunity to serve you and your Little princess. We are pretty slow on Monday and Tuesday so you can just walk in. However, if you know approximately when you can come by then give us a call at 703-729-8869 and Dai can pencil you in the book. Ask for Van if you want to have a Mani or Pedi service done.

Don't forget the 10% off this month for the Broadlands customer. Don't worry if you mis-placed the coupon, just let us know that you are in the community.

    Thanks,
    John

After trying them for the second time today, they are great, The customer service and atmosphere are wonderful. If you are going to get a mani/pedi, it's worth the extra money to get it done here. I highly recommend as well. :)

Just wanted to put a shout out to Diva Nails, formerly Victoria Nails. Same owner same staff same excellent service and services. I love that place! I have to say I was confused and thought the ownership was different. That is not entirely true - Dai is still there! He shows extraordinary customer service and I really enjoy talking with him.

Had a variety of waxing services, manicure and pedicure. Totally recommend. Van or Cindy. It is so nice to have an affordable nail/waxing place nearby in the Broadlands!

Thanks for that last post. I was confused! I know it as Diva Nails as well and I think they are great, too.
