While it's good to look at these reports to get an idea of how a restaurant is doing, what you need to do is look at 'trends'. Keep in mind that it is VERY rare that nothing is found during an inspection. You'll find it extremely difficult to find a restaurant that has a consistent 'clean' record. Usually, if you spot that, then either the restaurant is extremely expensive or the inspector didn't do a good job.

So, my suggestion is don't base your choice of eating establishment solely on what you see here; if you do, you will NEVER eat out. Many of these 'violations' are usually corrected 'on the spot' and if you enjoy a restaurant and it isn't 'infested' by something bad, continue to enjoy it... Many of the violations noted are usually minor; as always, just use your best judgement...

Totally agree ... take a look at the last inspection of Bonefish ... a non-critical violation was found. The definition of non-critical:

Violations not directly related to the cause of food-borne illness, but if uncorrected, could impede the operation of the restaurant. The likelihood of food-borne illness in these cases is very low. Non-Critical violations, if left uncorrected, could lead to Critical violations. Examples of non-critical violations include a lack of facility cleanliness and maintenance or improper cleaning of equipment and utensils.

This could mean that when the inspector came in, the floor had not been swept and mopped before the restaurant opened. In this case it was for: Employees are not observing designated area for personal items. More than likely someone was leaving their drinks in the wrong place, which was corrected on the spot.

The last critical item was back in July, the water heater broke, and they had the plumber on site correcting the problem.

I stopped eating at both establishments because they (visually) appear dirty. In my opinion, if they are not concerned with cleanliness then what other details are being ignored (in the kitchen - such as improper food temperatures and dangerous storage practices)? Many restaurants take great pains to operate in a safe and sanitary manner...so if there are violations, however minor, don't ignore them and stay informed.

I looked at this information a couple years ago...check out all of the Chinese restaurants, horrible stuff. Conversely, the Japanese restaurants are some of the best rated.

I noticed that Cafe Opera has a history of violations. Seems like an industry problem. It looks clean to me.

My husband refuses to ever grab something from the McDonald's whenever we are at Walmart. Now his suspicions are confirmed and I won't be eating there! Infestation! Baby cockroaches! Blech!
