I know there's an old thread with a few recommendations but I'd like current feedback from folks using daycare for their dogs. I also didn't want to revive all the arguments in the old threads about whether or not people who work full time are fit to own dogs! :)

So please, folks who use a doggy day care- please share your recent pos/neg experiences with local facilities!

I'm not interested in someone stopping by to walk him- I'm looking for interaction with other animals and animal lovers who will continue the training that we are doing throughout the day.

    Thanks in advance!

I've tried a few places. I really liked one over in Chantilly. I believe it was called Dog Days Daycare or something close to that. We had to take them there when our house was on the market while we were at work and my dogs loved it! It's off of 50 right by the Target and Red Robin on the right side where the industrial area is. They have a little dog and big dog play area, and they have nap time. I've tried a few in the area and I liked this one the best, they definitely have the most flexible time open, they are even open on the weekends and at the time that was very important to us. I also really liked the owners.

We used Dog Days Playcare in Chantilly as well, and I would not recommend them. Our dog has separation anxiety, which we told them about, and we thought that being around other dogs would help. However, she was left unsupervised long enough to damage one of their gates in their play area and on her last visit there, she broke a tooth off. They didn't charge us for the damage she caused, but it worried me that she was left alone long enough with other dogs to do that. The last time, when she broke the tooth, she was in a crate at the time. She ended up with bloat the next day. Again, not their fault, but certainly no place like home.

We have instead been using what you said you don't want, but may want to reconsider, a dog walker who comes to our home. We use Woofies. Great people. Animal lovers. If you want them to do training, they may. They are all about customer service. They can be reached at (571) 426-6503 or petsitters@woofies.net.

We have used Happy Tails Dog Spa in Tysons (right near the dulles main toll plaza) and they are pretty good. We have had minor issues with them but overall I would recommend. Since we adopted our second dog we have started using dog walkers much more and like the above poster, are currently using Woofies. I know you said you arent looking for that - but if you ever have the need, I would highly recommend them. They are true animal lovers and are great with our two dogs. Their website is woofies.net I believe. Otherwise, take a look at Happy Tails.

Also, check out Dog Day Afternoon in Leesburg. They have doggy day care, basic obedience, advanced obedience, CGC classes, conformation classes, and the list goes on and on. One of Leesburg's best small businesses for 2005.

We use Everything & the Dog for the past two years, they come to your house and walk your dog (15min or 30min)...we have multiple dogs and it cost about $15 per visit.

    www.everythingandthedog.com

It is mother daughter team and a local Loudoun Co business. If you end up contacting them Lydia & Patti are the owners. If you live in Southernwalk...and you end up using their service...ask for Anna, she is by far the best, in fact for Halloween she brought a trick-or-treat bag for our dogs. If you have any questions please feel free to PM or email me
