IHOP is IHOP no matter where it is- sometimes it stinks, sometimes it's okay. Puccios serves breakfast too- and I'm sure they don't put pancake batter in their omelettes like IHOP does (got that straight from an IHOP waitress when I asked how the 3 egg omelette coud be SO big and fluffy...) all those extra carbs- ewww. Needless to say I haven't had an IHOP omelette since hearing that kitchen scuttlebutt...

And scuttlebutt is usually BS. You can tell if there is pancake batter in an omelette, I've had a few IHOP omelettes in my 55 years, and I've never seen or tasted an omelette with pancake batter.

To get a fluffy omelette you need a few things:

whip the eggs to get alot of air into the mix, use a solid top grill at the perfect temperature (drop some water on the grill, if the water balls up and bounces before it boils off, its about right), use alot of butter to grease the grill so that the omelette will slide around perfectly.

If you don't have a grill, an omelette skillet will work just as well.

Finally, keep an eye out on Food Network for the show 'Good Eats'. He does a half-hour on one of them about how to make the ultimate omelette.

neil, if I had heard it "on the street" of course I would give it no credibility, but from the staff?!? not sure why the waitress would make someting like that up. as it is, she shouldn't have told ME- the customer, imho. if it was out of concern for a possible allergy she would have told me when I ordered it, not casually when I commented on the sheer size of the omelette. Just because I eat sausage that doesn't mean I want to know how it's made! :)

All this is hilarious every time a new restaurant opens these places get clobbered by people like they are starving to death. Ha ha ha ha ha The poor people working at the restaurant don’t have a chance in the beginning with Loudoun residents. I think there is too much disposable income around here. Ha ha ha Also there is virtually no poor people around here or even lower middle class. The kids grow up in schools here almost in a vacuum where everything is the same. Oh well so much for the suburbs which I helped create. I have second thoughts on suburbia these days, when I see such unification and people raid the new restaurants and don’t even give them a chance to even break in the staff and then criticize endlessly. Ha ha ha Yes even I have partaken in this frenzy, but not anymore. Ha ha ha Just development and quality of life issues for me now. :)

You hit the proverbial nail right on the head Lee! That is why we do not visit new restaurants until a few weeks after opening (let them work the kinks out!)

We have been to Del Rey twice now which got slammed by many after some initial opening pains. We did not go for our first visit until last week but each visit has been a nice meal.

As for IHOP, we will avoid it like the plague on weekend mornings when it will be swamped.

I refrained from commenting on some of the bad behavior I witnessed since I had a good experience and couldn't honestly say I'd wouldn't have had a bad attitude, too. But, it was eye opening to see a middle aged Dad go off on a teenaged waiter in front of his family. It was as if IHOP opened just for him and personally offended him.

Off the topic of the new restaurants but on the same vein of this post, there was a letter to the editor of the Washington Post on Sunday about a tale of two parenting styles. I'll post a link-it's too much to summarize. But it makes a great point and, quite frankly, I've seen plenty of this behavior in Ashburn.

GREAT ARTICLE! off topic yes- but interesting nonetheless. you should post it under pumpkin vandalism where it fits perfectly with the topic!

one thing we've noticed about ourselves is that being parents has improved oy PERSONAL behavior, because we need to raise a good citizen, not an entitled brat. not to say we don't occasionally screw up in front of him. but we DO make a concious effort not to.

to that end, and to tie in to the topic- my son was 7 when we were at an upscale Italian restaurant in NYC, and he asked the waiter to speak to the manager (we weren't sure WHAT he was up to, but we went with it.) the manager came over to my son and asked what he could do for him. My 7 year old said " the food here is GOOOOOD!" the manager shook his hand and gave him a business card, and asked him to please come again to the restaurant! i think we even got a free dessert out of that exchange!!

we taught him to speak up when things stink, but to also give praise when they are good- and he has carried that lesson into other aspects of his life... woohoo! now if we could get him to stop talking back and to flush the doggone toilet... :)

People do have the option to leave. Like others have said these are new Restaurants and do need a certain amount of time to get their operation running smoothly. First why would anyone walk into a brand new packed restaurant and expect great service????? Beyond me!!!!!!

Our family of four just had a great experience at the new Mexican restaurant Del Rey. Service was awesome, never an empty glass and food delivered promptly and hot. Food was great too.

We just tried Del Rey last night. Service was fine but the food just didn't measure up. I was so disappointed because I love Mexican food and really wanted a close restaurant. IMHO the quality was well below On the Border, Rio Grande, Don Pablos, Moes, Tortilla Factory or anyplace else I can think of around here. Major bummer.

FYI - the Anita's in Leesburg is very disappointing in their service. The decor is nicer than a lot of other Anita's in the area; although the front entrance/wait to be seated area is pretty much non-existant - not fun on busy Sunday mornings. Service is definitely suffering right now. On a high note, the food is typical Anita's:)

I agree ... and I do apologize for any slight. Its just that you often hear things that can be 'urban legends' even from 'staff'. However, as Cliff pointed out ... I've been properly chastised.:surrender:
