    Barbara and others--

I could not help seeing this post about kids' misbehavior. Unfortunately, today's parents (NOT ALL PARENTS) are trying too much to be their kids' "BEST FRIEND" instead of parenting. WHO IS RAISING WHO?

Are the kids raising the parents or are the parents raising the kids? When my husband and I were growing up and working as teenagers, we were not allowed to be working after 9 pm on weekends. We were not allowed to work after school or on school nights. Our family time was important and we ate all meals together (even as teenagers with activities). Our friends were respected and we were able to express our opinions but we knew who had the "LAST WORD". No, we were not without quarrels--we just learned to love and respect each other in our family. We both paid for OUR OWN CARS and other belongings that was considered "EXTRAS" not "NECESSITIES"!

Even though when my husband has to travel overseas on business trips for GRUMMAN, and I am left home with 6 year old QUADS and 3 week old NEWBORN TWINS, our kids still knows who is in charge! You see, we back each other up and are not "played" against each other when it comes to discipline issues or other family matters. We have been known to "strip" our kids' rooms of toys, etc. for a few days to let them know that all they have is a PRIVILEGE NOT A RIGHT! Our kids do not have computers in their rooms or TV(s) either. We monitor what they do and who they are around. It can be done also with teenagers. After all, who buys the cars, the gas, etc?

Finding your kids' "currency" (what they value most) and teaching "who pays the bills" for their clothes, toys, etc., teaches kids at an early age responsibility, skills to use when they are able to make important life choices, and other valuable skills to be independent not dependent on their parents' support. We allow our kids to express opinions and we have a family meeting sometimes depending on the situation to see what should be done. We, the parents, have the last say. Our kids learn expression of thought, consideration of others, and what choice truly is "NEEDS NOT WANTS".

Maybe your development should call police--me personally, I would have called the police the first time I saw the kids acting out and doing the pranks. NO EXCEPTIONS!!

One of my QUAD daughters recently deliberately tore up her sister's prized doll and she had to DONATE WITHOUT A CHOICE TWO of her special dolls. One she gave to her sister to replace her destroyed doll and we took her to the local shelter to give a BRAND NEW BIRTHDAY toy to show her that "to much who is GIVEN much is REQUIRED". She understood that you do not DESTROY other people's property and REPLACEMENT VALUE is costly. Thus, her "CURRENCY" was her new birthday gift from us. Yes, she has more than enough, and on her OWN--she apologized to her sister and learned a valuable lesson. Heartfelt though it was!

Good luck and have a blessed Christmas--

Foodie (new motto--for my brood--CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN--??)

With cellphone video, little brother is always watching

Interesting article about being watched. Brim did something like this awhile back at his office to catch a thief. My criminal Attorney brother loves this stuff and is extremely effective in court. Works on our construction sites. Now if I just had one of my hidden cameras trained on my mailbox last weekend. ha ha
You can bet it is now:)

Heard from a friend on Neighborhood Watch that the latest craze in our neighborhood is cutting the cords on people's holiday lights. I'd say what are they thinking, but it seems that they just AREN'T...

there a house vandalized in our neighborhood last night as well. parents f teens reading this need to put their kids on notice that if they are caught doing this they could face severe consequences- from the home owner victimized as well as the police, and that they should let YOU know if they hear of any kids doing this. why should a few punks be able to destroy hours of work and holidays displays because "they're bored"??? they need parent's attenton, not another electronic toy. they need discipline not time out.

i could say so much more but we all already know....

I think it is time to break out the Tesla Coil Rudolph Nose, muahahahahah.

Seriously, this is a big problem. They could get hurt if they cut the wrong persons wires. Then the running and the screaming and the lawyers...

It would be such a shame if someone used 220 power for their decorations instead of 110 and one of the teens cut into it...

This is not as bad as some of the other incidents on here but sometime last night someone used some chalk to write a specific 4 letter word that starts with F twice up on highview trail place between the first culdesac and ridgeway. At least these letters will wash out eventually.
