Steve Snow Community Meetings - South 1/18 & North 2/7

DULLES DISTRICT SUPERVISOR STEPHEN J. SNOW ANNOUNCES
    DULLES SOUTH COMMUNITY MEETING

Supervisor Snow will be hosting his first community meeting of 2007 at Mercer Middle School on January 18, 2007 at 7pm. This meeting is to serve as an informal work session between Supervisor Snow and the citizens of the Dulles District to discuss matters of importance and concern for the year ahead. Items of specific interest are the upcoming County budget negotiations as well as a discussion of issues regarding needed infrastructure and community services in the Dulles South Area.
Supervisor Snow is encouraging the attendance of members of the various Dulles South HOAs, the Dulles South Business Alliance, the Route 50 Task Force and the various local citizen groups located in the Dulles South area. Mr. Snow believes that their presence will provide the opportunity for valuable insight and input from citizens who have been deeply involved in addressing the many challenges and issues facing the Dulles District. Mr. Snow is looking forward to this event and hopes to see everyone there.

Doesn't Steve Snow also represent US? The last time I checked, I lived in the Dulles District, not "Dulles South"... Sorry for the tirade, but I'm tired of being in the forgotten, neglected and ignored section of my district. And last time I checked, we need infrastructure, too.

Yes, he does "represent" us (Broadlands) but he's only interested in Dulles South. The one meeting he held in our community center a few years ago, he wasn't interested in what we wanted to ask about -- he talked only about what he was interested in, and he hasn't been back.

Steve Snow will be having a Dulles North community update in February at the Nature Center. I'm still working out the details and dates. Look for the announcement in the February Newsletter.

I believe Steve Snow lives in South Riding, which likely explains his disinterest in this area, as well the new infrastructure project(s) in his neighborhood.

My only hope is that on his way to the meeting, the Honorable Mr. Snow sits at the four-way stop sign at Ashburn Villiage and Shellhorn for 10 minutes and the stop sign at Shellhorn and Waxpool for an additional five minutes. It won't do anything, but maybe he can at least share our pain when it comes to the area's piss-poor road system.

    Today's Post
(http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/01/09/AR2007010901629.html?referrer=email) has a good story on the Virginia roads situation and it looks like I'm not the only one who thinks it's a good idea for lawmakers to feel our pain.

"People understand finally that this crisis is not being fabricated," said Del. David E. Poisson (D-Loudoun), who said he found it fitting that several members of the House Appropriations Committee attending a meeting at Northern Virginia Community College's Loudoun County campus last week became mired for several hours in the afternoon rush hour on Route 7. "Our lives look like that every day. This problem needs to be addressed."

For those of you who are planning on attending the meeting on the 7th, what topics would you like me to address?

I think he needs to address how he plans on accelerating additional access to route 28 from the broadlands / ashburn area. Waxpool can not continue to be the only route.

WOW - amen there. Access to route 28 is just an absolute nightmare. It is totally unacceptable that there is only one general road for access to 28 from Ashburn/Broadlands etc. All roads dump into Waxpool and we know how that works.

Also, now that the ligt is removed at Sterling blvd and 28, all we have accomplished is move the problem to Waxpool. You have three major dump points coming together now at Wegmans and that exit onto Loudoun County parkway from Waxpool is rediculous...

Do not widen any more, build new access roads that can criss-cross and get us more (quantity) of access to 28.

    I agree with gator.
But additionally we need more east-west paths that go beyond 28.

I would like to know if Steve Snow is now supporting the Broadland's Hospital?

Mr. Snow has always recognised the immediate and overdue need for additional beds in Loudoun. In fact, I don't think there is anyone that denies this need.

Mr. Snow was not been shy about wanting to address the need with a hospital in the south. Without addressing the lack of rational for that, that option effectively died with the CPAM crash.

I'd like to know Mr. Snow's plan for getting hospital beds into the county.

What are his thoughts on the future plans of the county's Fire & Rescue Department? They just got a new station in South Riding, now what's the plan for Ashburn? Can we get a permanent building instead of a station in a freakin' industrial park? Also, what is the timetable for the new station in Lansdowne?

I want to know his thoughts on taxes, given that our property values are going down, the BOS just gave themselves a raise and the Board always tends to fully fund the schools almost w/out question. Are they going to really scrutinize the county budget this year? I mean, this ELECTION year?

The one built in South Riding was planned before Steve took office. It was built much sooner than planned due to a bad accident in South Riding. It made it politically prudent for the BoS to build one there next.
The permanent station for this area will be built by Moorefield Station, just outside the Broadlands boundary near the Ryan Rd. interchange. Not sure what the timeline is.

Boy - that's a loaded offer...let me count the ways (we plan to attend the meeting)

So what do we owe the pleasure of Svps. Snow having a meeting in Broadlands - did he take a wrong turn and get lost? J/C - but not really

    1) What plans does he have for increasing the Law Enforcement budgetfor the Dulles district (which also happens to be the hot bed for the MS13 gang)?

    2) If education is a high priority - what are the corrective 2007/2008 plans to ensure Loudoun Co children are not on a wait list?

    3) When can Loudouners expect an alternative to the INOVA monopoly, such as a the HCA or Broadlands Regional Medical Campus?

FWIW - and just my Opinion; if Snow expects our two votes and other Votes in Broadlands during the coming election, it would be nice to have him in our area more than once every 24-36 months - it seems a little bit self-serving .

Get the shovels ready ... the last election he said he was for 'smart growth' ... we found out what that meant.

Too bad Shellhorn at LCP cannot be expanded farther East to hook up with Lockridge and/or Old Ox as an alternate to Route 28? Does anyone know who owns that land? Is that also part of MCI/Verizon? Any plans for that land at this point? Would be great if we could have more roads running next to the Greenway like Sunrise Valley and Sunset Hills in Fairfax Co. (Reston area)
