We found a wonderfully charming and loving cat last night on Middle Ridge Place (off Broadlands Boulevard and Glebe View Road). She is an adorable orange and white short-haired cat, and she is VERY comfortable around people. She was in the storm drain outside our house, so we took her inside so she would not be in the 100-degree weather. She's thin (but eating well and drinking) and appears healthy and happy. We're having our vet check her out to be sure.

If she is your cat, please drop me a line. We'd love for her to get reunited with her family.

Cat Found, Anyone Missing Her or Want to Adopt?

The found cat now has had her shots, has checked out clean for feline leukemia and other diseases, and is doing very well. If you are looking for her or are interested in adopting, please drop me a line.

I haven't seen her for a few months, but this post reminded me that a cat fitting that description was hanging around Highview Trail a while back. And I recall specifically watching her go into one of the storm drains. Perhaps its the same cat who has just now made her way farther north?

There's a sign for a missing orange and white tabby cat on the corner of Summerhouse Place and Glebe View. Contact info is for Chris Biggs at 723-9050. I don't know if this is the cat, but you might want to contact that person.

gryphon, if you haven't done so already, please contact the Veterinarians in the area and ask them if anyone has reported a missing cat. Also contact the Loudoun County Animal Shelter and do the same. Leave them a good description of the cat and your telephone number for future contacts.

I have been feeding a stray cat for several months now and while I received a few inquiries, unfortunately, none has panned out.

Liskey, thanks for the tip on the missing cat. Since the sign was put up SO close to Middle Ridge, we got our hopes up. However, the missing cat on that sign is a male (our found cat is female). So, we're still searching for the owner. Now, we'll be on the look-out for a missing orange-and-white male, too!

KTdid, thanks for the message, too. We called the local vets, but I forgot to call the animal shelter. We'll do that today.

Thanks again for everyone who has been helping to get this cat back to her home. We've had her for a week. While it would be hard to give her up, we'd be happy to reunite her with her family.

Not sure if you still have this cat, but I just saw a sign up yesterday at Chickacoan and Broadlands Blvd. It's for an orange and white cat. I will look to see if it's a male or female that they are missing, and will repost. Thought I'd mention it, just in case.

While we're on the subject of missing cats, I would like to know if anyone is missing a large black declawed cat with beautiful green eyes. He/she visits me daily. He/she is very frightened and so I'm not confident about putting him/her in a carrier to take to the vets. He wandered into our yard almost 4 months ago.

I called all the local veterinarians and the animal shelter but the calls I've received are for a missing black cat with claws in tact.

I've managed to get close enough to apply Frontline and give it an ear rub and belly rub on occasion. He/she is slowly warming up to me but I cannot keep it and I hope to locate it owners, if in fact it is indeed lost.

Christinaandrob, thank you for the tip. The cat in the flyer is not the one we found (or who found us), but we will stay on the look out since that cat appears to be missing in our area of the neighborhood.

We've gotten pretty attached at this point to the new kitty. She has gained 1.5 pounds and has checked out as totally healthy with the vet. So, unless her parents step up, we'll definitely keep her.

    Cat Returned to Loving Family

To all following this thread: the kitty has been returned to his family. Note that I said his. Inititally, our vet diagnosed the kitty as an unspayed female (and scheduled a spaying), so we disregarded the flyers for the missing male cat.

However, upon closer inspection, the vet realized that the cat was actually a male who had been neutered at an early age (making his gender difficult to determine). I swear that I am no feline gender expert and never inspected closely (ahem!) myself. Still, I am so glad that the gender question was figured out before surgery!

UM... care to share the name of the misdiagnosing vet? Not sure I'd want to take my animals there. :shakehead:

I don't want to make anyone feel bad for an honest mistake. Even the most professional of professionals make errors, and I've made many in my life. Our regular vet was on vacation, so we had a fill-in see us on the first visit. Our regular vet thankfully figured out the "problem" on the follow-up visit. So, no harm nor foul.

I wonder if this might be a common error? My Mom had the same thing happen with her kitten. First appt after getting her kitten from a shelter the vet thought it was a girl but lo and behold a year later at next appt she found out she was actually a he!

Happened to us, too: our kittens - one male, one female, or so we were told - were taken directly to the vet from the animal shelter for spaying/neutering (per the shelter's policy). The vet called just before the "female's" spaying to say that whoops!, she's actually a he. So in this case, it was the animal shelter staff that made the error, but I guess small kittens (who mysteriously grow up to be 17# cats) can be difficult to call, too.

Another stray found behind Harvest Green Terrace near the tot lot...this time it's a black kitten DSH. I've been feeding it for 3 weeks. I thought it was feral - turns out it's quite affectionate. Anyone know who recently adopted and lost a kitten? I can't imagine anyone bringing this little furball home then purposely letting it outside at such a young age. It wouldn't know the first thing about survival. I called the local Vets and the LC Animal Shelter to report finding the kitten, but to no avail. Anyone?

Male feral cats/kittens can be very friendly. We took one in 14 years ago and he’s been, from the beginning, one of the most affectionate cats I’ve ever met.

The other ferals I TNR'd were much older when I trapped them - that's probably why they were so scared and on the wild side. The mother of the 2 I trapped cannot be trapped and she continues to have litters so maybe this new kitten is feral. It's very young and wouldn't approach me for a long time. It eventually responded to my coaxing. It wants to bite and suck on my fingers and knuckles - does that mean it was taken from its mother too soon?

I'm behind you on Welby and have noticed an older black/white/orange cat sometimes sitting on my deck (though I have no idea how its getting up there)- is this the momma cat? There was a younger looking black cat with her one day but I haven't seen it since - perhaps its the one you've taken under your wing?

The black, white, and orange cat you describe sounds like one of a litter of four born to a brown spotted feral two years ago. I didn't think it survived since I haven't seen it around but perhaps it did. it was one of a litter of four kittens. Two were brown spotted tabby's (I trapped, neutered, and released them), one was solid black and the fourth had calico marks as you describe. Maybe the black kitten belonged to her. Speaking of the black kitten I recently "took under my wing" (thanks), she is at the Vet office right now getting all her shots and will be spayed in the morning - thanks to the Humane Society :) Any serious takers?
