Foster's and UFC are definitely two of the new, up-and-coming and enjoyable experiences out there that the masses don't know anything about.

As I said in a previous post, everyone has their own taste when it comes to burgers. And as previous poster pointed out, there are different degrees of burger joints.

Personally, my favorite area burger joints are in this order:

    1. Foster's
    2. Ted's Montana Grill
    3. Five Guys
    4. Fuddruckers

But I was always partial to Burger King over McDonald's because of the flame broil factor so that bias obviously puts Foster's atop the other solid contenders.

Ownership -- I've talked to Jeremy and Geoff a couple of times and they are both friendly and personable. Both have been in the trenches with their employees (either on the register or delivering food) during the opening month. These guys have other Foster's franchises opening soon, which says something about both them and the company.

Bar -- Not really a bar per se, more of a place to drink a beer while waiting for your food or with your food.

Food -- Burgers are top-notch. I've been told chicken is also very good, as are the daily specials -- especially the philly cheesesteak. The milkshakes are old fashioned and spectacular.

Intangibles -- Good atmosphere, two flatscreen TVs always tuned to ESPN behind the bar. Food preparation has gotten quicker since opening week. Still not sure if ordering/food delivery system is most efficient, as another poster pointed out.

Rating -- Five beer bottles (out of six).

P.S.: The best burger joint I have ever been to is the Burger Bar in Las Vegas, in Mandalay Bay's shopping mall. The Kobe burger is $15, but well worth the price. The best fast food burger joint I've been to is Steak N' Shake, in the Midwest and Florida. The closest one to Northern Virginia is Knoxville, Tenn.

Last night was the first time we've had a not so good experience at Fosters and I can pinpoint exactly what was wrong. They were mildly busy when we walked in and there were about 8 people in front of us. The problem is it takes them about 3-5 minutes to check out one customer and they only have one cash register. We walked in at 6:45 and they were finally taking my order at 7:10. It's just uncalled for and I plan on complaining about this and suggest that they invest in at least one more register or changing their order processing procedures.

The food was pretty good as always. My burger was cooked well and tasted very good. The fries were overly salty though and I could not eat them. I do not recommend you get the side salad as it's not very good at all and definitally not worth the extra $2.50.

We did have our dinner by 7:25 which is right at their 15 minute mark for order fulfillment. Next time I walk in though if I see more than 3 or 4 people in line I think I'll just go to panera.

Not sure if you can call Steak N'Shake 'fast food', as they don't start cooking the burgers until after you order. The 'steakburgers' (don't call them hamburgers) are fantastic, the fries are great, and the MILKshakes (none of this softserv machine stuff here) are thicker than those out of those 'shake' machines.

First ran into them when I visited the in-laws in Florida, then had them in St. Louis and Tampa. When we moved to NoVA, I went into withdrawl, with relief only occurring on vacations to Florida and western Pennsylvania. However, now that we're in Pittsburgh ... YUM!!

Fosters was OK, I think they need a little different system to place orders. Seems to always be long wait to order but not a lot of people ordering. The burgers are ok too, had better. TOP NOTCH in Austin.

And FYI, I've eaten at the Burger bar in Vegas, and I got food Posioning from that dump. Won't eat there again or in any of the Mandalay bay hotels anymore. Not worth the risk and suffering.

They charge you the same price even if you don’t want the drink. My husband went to lunch there once and ordered a beer in place of the soda but had to pay the same price plus the cost of the beer. So I guess they’d charge you the same even if you wanted to drink water?

A tip of the beer bottle to boomertsfx for playing the price card. If you want to talk about the high price of something, the $3.50 milkshake would be your best bet.

Like Christian, maybe it would be good if Geoff and Jeremy read this form to see what people are thinking about their joint. Sure, there are some issues with the ordering process, and now that I think about it, another time wasting part of the process is having the manager or order taker use a marker and go over what you just wrote in pencil.

And like JLC, I've ordered a beer or milkshake and still had to pay the same price. But at the end of the day, I've enjoyed the burger every time I've been there, despite the obvious kinks.

IMO - you can't beat your own homemade hamburgers on the grill!! Less expensive too.

There's a novel idea -- food is cheaper if you make it yourself. Why don't you start a thread about all the great things you cook at home!

I am reasonably happy with their food, but their carry-out systems sucks - called ahead at half time and showed up only to be 10th in line at the cashier. They gotta fix that cashier problem for carry-outers IMO. I won't carry-out from there again.

We stopped by this weekend and was suprised how big the place was once I stepped in. For whatever reason, I thought it was a small since it was located in strip mall.

We were pleased with their service and food. Definitely will go back for a quick bite when we are running around during errands.

Just a quick FYI if you are picking up a call in from Foster's go straight to the bar and see if it is ready. They will ring you out so you can go.

My wife and I went to Foster's recently and were very dissapointed. The food was mediocre and the service so-so. Not a place I would recommend or go back to.
