Does anyone know when Amvrosia (sp?) is going to open? It's located in the same shopping center as Fosters Grille. My understanding is that it's some type of Italian restuarant.

    Thanks in advance-

When I was at Fosters last week, it looked like Amvrosia was open.

Ambrosia opened two weeks ago. My wife and I have eaten there twice and the waiters and owners are very friendly and want to do a good job. They respond well to feedback and welcome it.

Is it owned by the same folks as the Ambrosia in Rockville? If so they have excellent Greek food at great prices.

We had dinner there on Monday night. Nice space, nice booths, nice bathrooms (very), and nice decor. Very responsive, friendly service.
Saw the kitchen and you could eat off the floor. Literally. It is spotlessly
clean. Food was average to good. Gyro yummy. Chicken souvlaki--had better (old Sylvana's in Herdon had the best!) Overall, for that type of food in the immediate neighborhood, I'd stick with Mezza Grill at dinner.

Sad to say Ambrosia is another local joint that is mediocre. Went there for the first time the other night and it is not very good.

It looks nice, decor is good.

But let me list the issues with the food.

The homemade bread is gross. Crumbles apart, no taste. How about some traditional Greek crusty bread?

The salad that came w/the dinner was just iceberg lettuce. If you ask, they'll add some olives, feta cheese, etc. Greek dressing was good though.

The pizza is pretty awful. Nobody in our party liked it. Funky taste. I think the problem is the sauce.

The rice is pretty lame. What about some nice Greek pilaf? Instead it's some mealy kind of rice.

Kids didn't even like the lemonade.

The lamb chops were pretty good, but overall everything else was mediocre.

Sorry to say it's not the type of place we can go back to.

    Oh, I forgot one thing.

Mediterranean Breeze in Ashburn is much, much better when it comes to this type of Greek-Italian restaurant.

That's pretty surprising. Mediterranean Breeze is far better.

Ambrosia is nice inside, but the food is such a disappointment. For example, the salad that comes with the meal -- it's just some iceberg lettuce. Unless, you ask for other ingredients.

Instead of a nice small Greek salad with a couple olives, some feta, some cucumber, tomato you just get some iceberg lettuce. Come on.

The pizza was gross and the bread they bring out for the meal is funky beyond description. And the rice was gross. It wasn't even a Greek pilaf.

Those are just a couple of examples.

Let me put it to you this way. It was a Friday night and the place was empty. Enough said.

i like both restaurants. Amvrosia makes a delicious spaghetti carbonara- I haven't had their greek fare yet. i do agree the bread prior to diiner is nothing special, but that's fine with me- less carbs! :)
