Belmont Ridge Road Closed

Does anyone know why Belmont Ridge Road is closed?

 

Yes, a power line went down there yesterday. I saw it

 

Yikes! Hopefully, nobody got hurt. Was it from the weather?

 

Here is the short version:

I was driving along Belmont Ridge Southbound. I saw a "flatbed" off the road, a ford escort with a pole across the front of it, wires, everywhere and a guy standing on the grass near Hay with his hand on his knees.

I was about to drive around when...Whammy!!! A huge flash unlike anything I had ever seen. I was about 50 feet from the flash, but the guy was about 20 feet. I could feel it in my car, and the friend that I was on the phone with said that he heard me grunt. Well, the fella that was standing on the side of the road stood there for a second, and then run about fifty yards away. The fire truck pulled up from the other side of the wires, and I blocked the southbound traffic until a cop showed up.

 

Well done!

 

Another reason all utilities should be underground.

Besides they look ugly and junk up the countyside as well as extremely dangerous.

Was this around 5:15 PM? We lost power for an hour at about 5:15.

 

Just got a call - road should be back open now. 4pm on Sat, the 17th.

Also, everyone be safe and don't drive while tipsy tonight. The Sheriff's Office will be in many areas doing check points (you shouldn't be driving drunk regardless of whether the Sheriff's Office is out or not, but you get my point....)

That was after the sherriffs department starting detouring traffic down Portsmouth.
