They sent out a card in the mail for their Taste of Teeter or whatever they called it. I got there too late for the wine and snacks but the store is very nice, the staff was friendly. Poor Safeway.
Oh, and they are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Wow. I may not even go to Wegmans as often either.

Just a heads up. When the Harris Teeter in Brambleton opened up, it was a lovefest. Keep in mind, up until HT opened, the closest thing to civilization Brambletonites had was, well, Broadlands (don't gloat).

Trust me, the bloom is off that rose. HT is expensive and since the market (no pun intended) is saturated and traffic is low-ish, not much turnover on products. Low turnover leads to expiration dates passing and the product is still on the shelves. The nice thing about that, you can occasionally get great deals on turning-green-tomorrow meat and bakery stuffs.

For you People magazine readers out there, Safeway gets theirs on Friday, HT doesn't get it until the following Tuesday. I know some of you get what I'm saying and are pained. ;)

Can't beat the place for convenience though!

I don't want to be Debbie Downer. Enjoy your sparkly new grocery store!

Harris Teeter is a very nice store, well laid out with great customer service. However, prices can be high. However, there are some things that are cheaper than the other local chains and they also seem to have a number of good VIC card savings items each week. We go to Shopper's for our large shopping trips and HT in Brambleton for the quick ones for things that might be on sale.

While HT's is not cheap by any means, Giant and Safeway are certainly the leaders in notoriously high rip-off prices at much lower quality and freshness.

Thus, combination of Giant , Safeway , Harris Teeter, Wegman and maybe ( Bloom ) will lead to great deals for Broadlands community. Can not complain about the choices we have.

When I was living in Fairfax, I had Safeway and Giant << long drive away. So loving life here at Broadlands !!

I plan to use all three or four stores depending on what is on sale :p

As I mentioned previously ... if you email or snailmail Trader Joe's they tend to listen and look at locations.

FWIW ... I would definitely go to Trader Joe's in Reston and let them know about wanting one closer. We had people from Pittsburgh heading to Cleveland to the TJ's there for years before TJ decided to open up a store here.

Let's face it - most of the grocery stores in Ashburn are expensive...hopefully with all the competition - there will be a price war.

Thanks for the tip on Teeter and expiration dates. We have not had any problems yet with the local Teeters, but with so many new Teeters around, we will have to watch out. We never really looked at expiration dates until Safeway burned us so much that we really refuse to walk in there.

Now, we alternate between Wegman's (where we have never had a single expiration date issue) and the local Teeters. The prices are better at Wegman's, at least on the stuff we buy, but Teeter has some things that Wegman's doesn't carry. Of course, we make special runs to TJ's for the special things you just can't get anywhere else. Though, I have to admit, the staff and clientele are even a bit crunchy for a Saab enthusiast's tastes.

I've been wanting a Trader Joes in Ashburn/Broadlands too. Their wine prices are fantastic and the natural products are a great alternative. Like everyplace else, some things are costly, others are a good deal. Thanks for the tip! I will definitely contact them with a request.

If you're looking for TJ's wine, look no further than your local Safeway or Food Lion. Our local Publix sells various types of "Two-Buck Chuck" for $2.99.

If your supermarket doesn't carry it, you might ask them if they can get it. We buy it from Publix even though we've got a TJ's about 2 miles from our house.

Supermarket Buffet. HT at Brambleton is nice but at HT at Broadlands is very convience (on way to/from normal commute route). BTW, Safeway = best milk (1 gal) price = 2 for $5 (even cheaper than Costco!). :D

I'd rather pay a little more and shop in a nicer store with fresh food for the weekly stuff and make one monthly trip to Costco and buy anything in bulk that I can, than go to Shopper's. The new Giant is okay. Wegman's is great but too much chaos for me when I have my kids with me. Glad HT is here in Broadlands and soon there will be much more in that shopping center too, to draw people in. Now if only we could get a Trader Joes and a Whole Foods, life would be perfect here in Ashburn....

Believe it or not, what I find to be one of the best 'features' of HT are the small grocery carts for the kids. My daughter LOVES to have her own cart and shopping for groceries in a HT becomes a lot more enjoyable when the kids are actually having fun/participating...
