Anyone know where the nearest propane filling station is to Broadlands? Not really interested in swapping tank. Thanks.

Not sure if it's the nearest, but I know Blue Mount Nursery up on Rte 7 refills them.

We filled ours at Tart Lumber (near Rt. 28/Church Road) a year or so ago -- hopefully they're still doing it, since we're on empty, too!

There's actually a company that will deliver the tanks to your house and pick up the old one.

We've gone to the U-Haul rental place off of Sterling Blvd. and had them filled in the past. Not the closest, but if you're going by there...

    Costco/Sams?

I know BJ's used to...figured these might refill also.

If I understand the original post, I think Numba41 was talking about actually 'refilling' their propane tank, as opposed to 'exchanging' it. Unless I'm missing something, I don't think Home Depot, Sams, Costco or BJ's refill. If they do, I would be interested in their costs for a refill.

Do not use propane taxi! Road spam artists. They are prolific at it.

Nursery across from Golds on Rt7. Not too far from the Ashburn Rd/ Rt7. It's about $20 to fill up. Thats the closest I've found.

No real reason for not exchanging, I just prefer my all white tank versus one with some company's logo all over it. Went to some of the recommended places last night but were all closed. I ended up at the Citgo on rte. 7 and filled it for $16.00. Thanks for all your input.

So just cut the label off...it's just a shrinkwrap sleeve, a box cutter up the side and you're done. They'll re-apply it when you exchange it again.

If the tank was filled up for 16 dollars, that is cheaper than exchange.

My husband prefers refilling versus exchanging, it is more economical. Of course - we always refill two tanks at once, that way we always have a backup. We grill all year long and go fill up at least every two months.

I believe the exchange at Home Depot is $17 plus tax? If so, you use more gas in the car going somewhere else and defeat the purpose. Also, if you exchange, each tank has been cleaned, painted and checked for safety. Sounds good to me (assuming that it is only about 1-2 bucks more).

I think there was a thread about this a while back. I believe someone posted that a couple of the factors favoring refilling vs. exchanging are that you can get slightly larger tanks than you get with the "exchange" tanks, and the tanks can be refilled to a higher fill % than the exchange tanks. So, the tanks last longer, making them more economical.

I might have just made all this up though... :)

I refill because I have a new tank that I purchased a few years ago. I hate the thought of exchanging my nice tank for a dirty, rusty, dinged up tank at one of the exchange places. In addition I have found that the exchange tanks aren't uniform so some don't quite fit inside my grill w/o a bit of wrestling.
