Just a note to anyone that might be affected by this.

The area of townhomes near the corner of Vestals Gap and Claiborne Parkway seem to be having telephone line issues this morning. Autumnwood Square is affected, as might be the surrounding areas. Please check your line and if you have no dialtone, I would suggest you call Verizon repair at 1-800-275-2355 and inform them of the issue. I've talked to at least 3 neighbors who all can confirm the issue, but Verizon still claims it's not an area outage.

If you are at work, you can also try calling home and see if your answering machine picks up or not; if it doesn't, you're affected. If you use Verizon's voice-mail services and you call home and go directly into voice-mail, you're also probably affected.

I encourage folks to call Verizon if they are having issues. The more people call, the higher the problem goes on their radar and the quicker we can get this resolved.

    Thanks!

My phone is indeed out so I just called them on my cell. The recording I got after entering my number states there is a known outage in my area and Verizon is committed to restoring service by 9:00pm Friday June 8. I am still on hold waiting to talk to a real person.

For what it's worth, when you call the number, press 1 for repairs, and then when it asks for your phone number, simply say "Agent"; you will be forwarded to the next available warm-blooded service person.

Mine is out as well. When I call it the message says my number, 703-xxx-xxxx has been changed to a non-published number! Now, I do have a non-published number, but still....I'm calling now, thanks for the heads up!

Ok, got more information; this seems to be a larger outage than what I was told. The Safeway gas station can't process credit cards, which means their lines are also out.

Looks like it's a pretty large area outage, which ironically, is a good thing, since it means Verizon will throw more resources at trying to rectify the issue quickly.

I'll post more information as I get it...

BTW, for anyone who went through the Verizon system to report the problem; I always get a chuckle when they ask which phoneline has no dialtone, and then proceed to ask you if you're calling them from that line... DOH!

I just called to report the problem and they said they can't determine what the issue is yet. They are supposed to send a techinician out tomorrow but hopefully they will fix it before then, especially if it is an area issue.

They did the same thing with me when I called. I bet they failed to tell you that if service is restored and you don't cancel the service call, your *could* be charged...

So, if service is restored before your appointment, make sure to call the repair line back and cancel the appointment to avoid possible charges...

I called this morning too and they asked me if I'm calling from my phone when I told them that my phone line is dead, DUH!!!!!. Anyhow, I had them forward all the house calls to my husband's cell phone and it works. I was told the earliest to have a technician come to my house would be Tuesday, between 8AM-4PM. Hopefully, they'll come out sooner since it's not an isolated problem. Just my

    Cheers ~

Ok folks, got some 'inside' information courtesy of another forum user:

"They detected 2 fiber cuts this morning in the Ashburn area (Ashburn/Claiborne), Route 7 (Outages on both sides near Ashburn Village), and trouble of their HVAC system in the SmithSwitch CO."

If this is indeed the issue(s), we could be down for a few hours...

I'll keep you posted. If we have any other 'insiders', PM me any info you have and I'll post it here ;)

    verizon.com reports:

The number you are reporting is part of an outage.
The estimated restoration time for this outage is 6/8/2007 9:00 PM.

So TOMORROW we'll have service again.

I just called up too and spoke with a tech. He told me he had the real story. It went like this:

There are gremlins in the phone lines. A whole family of them. Apperently its the same gremlins that normal just hide your car keys and remotes but they have expended thier repertoire to phone line chewing. The tech said they are the blues ones. Not as bad as the red kind....but worse then the brown ones. They need to flush the system with Ovaltine. Apperently they hate the stuff. During this flushing period it is suggested you hide any livestock as they may assume thier form and stuff unwanted flyers in your doors.

Oh...the tech did mention he could be wrong about the gremlin therory and it may have been the broadlands teenagers that did it all.

    :)

well, apparently someone fed these Gremlins after midnight (come on you saw that movie in the 80's) and now look what they've done.

Although, I prefer to blame those da*n teenagers for the whole mess.

I believe in the past when the phones go out the pools are also closed. So Summerbrooke has probably been closed. Some county requirement about needing a land line in case of emergency.
