The SouthernWalk and Summerbrooke pools will be closed today until approximately 4pm.

Both pools were vandalized last night. Furniture and trash thrown into the pools and they were defecated into.

    Nice.

The HOA Board will discuss this issue at the Board meeting next week. We've reached the point where paid security/surveillance is probably necessary.
If we catch anyone in the act of vandalizing HOA property, we WILL prosecute to the fullest extend possible.

I rarely post anything negative here, but if you can forgive my rant here, this really ****** me off!

I took the day off to take my little girl up to the pool today, and just before we leave I read this.

Are there no cameras at the pool?

I want these kids strung up by the ***** and at the risk of starting the whole discussion again on these boards, some of the parents in this area need to teach some of these young kids some respect. I see it all the time around here. I don't pay the ridiculous costs to live around here for this BS.

We are working on opening Community center pool today. We are right now working on getting enough staff to clean up Summerbrooke pool and be able to open Community center. I am hoping to be able to have this done by 12pm today. Southernwalk pool will be able to open as scheduled at 4pm.

Has anyone looked into installing motion-sensor camera equipment at the pools?

I also just happened to look at these posts prior to leaving for the pool. Is there a phone number we can call to check on status of the openings? I'd hate to get to the community pool ony to find out you weren't able to open it at noon like you'd hoped.....

How about some concertina wire on the fence. That'll stop the lil bastages.

If you are not able to reach any one at the pools, the numbers are on page three of the June newsletter, call the HOA office at 703-729-9704. We should receive information from the pools as soon as they open.

Just curious why the Summerbrook pool is not able to open - was the decision made to try and open SouthernWalk over Summerbrook - I am assuming not enough staff on hand to clean?

I want to say a big Thank you for getting at least two of the pools open - I am sickened by the destruction that was caused.

Southernwalk was caught at 5:30 this morning so I was able to get it called to the police and have the cleaning process started by 8am. That pool takes 6 hours to go through the filtration until it can re open thus opening as normal at 4pm.
I did not learn about Summerbrooke until 10am (did not think they would actually trash 2 pools so far apart in 1 night) so it was 11:30am until the sheriff's office responded and thus cleaning could start. Because the vandelism occured at 2 different pools they asked us not to begin cleaning until after the officer responded. The cleaning did not start until about 12pm and thus earliest it would open was 6pm if they kept all available staff there. I made a call at that time to send as many of the gaurds as I could to Community to be able to get it up and running as early as possible instead of worrying about the 2 hours Summerbrooke may have been able to open.

It really was not a choice of one pool over the other it was just a matter of when we found out about the vandelisms and were able to start the cleaning process.

No problem Staci - thanks for explaining. I can't believe all the problems we are having this year already - seems more than last year already.

Staci - in addition to the C__p in the pools, what else was done? At Summerbrook, was there property damage? Is money going to have to be spent for repairs/replacement of property? If so, how much? And do we (the HOA) keep records of this?

Thanks for all you great work and dedication on this and please keep us posted as you can.

Too bad they can't do a DNA test on the poop! :)

We were so disappointed when we got there this morning, play date in tote, all our gear, etc... only to hear about the vandalism.

Thank for working so hard to get them back and running!

Thankfully there was no major property damage this time. Mostly just contamination of the water. We may have a few pieces of furniture that will need to be replaced but I will not know that until everything is pulled out of the pools but I do not expect it to be much. When there is property damage we do keep track of that. Wes the general property manager keeps track of what is replaced and when along with any police reports and insurance claims we make. This is part of the reason that we need to really get volunteers for our neighborhood watch program so we can see what we can do to help keep this stuff from occuring in our community.

The HOA board has been working in trying to get a private security firm in here to do patrols because the cost is really starting to increase on all the these "small" vandelisms. But all of this takes time. I am working with them right now on trying to get something temporarily in place before the next board meeting on Tuesday so we can hopefully get through this weekend.

My kids got an early lesson on "Mean people do bad things and ruin all the fun for the rest of us" when we got to the pool this morning and spoke with Staci. Explaining to them why we couldn't go swimming after all broke my heart.

Thanks for all your hard work, Staci.

    sharse and others--

I also hope everyone has a safe and fun Summer. Hopefully, the HOA and the police can make the pools a fun and safe place for your homeowners.

Destruction of property (no matter what the reasons) should NOT be tolerated. Parents do NEED to pay attention to their kids and teenagers. It is does not "take a village--even Broadlands Village" (bad pun!! Sorry.) to raise kids. It should be the parents of these kids raising them. Yes, you can know what your kids are doing. (No, not all parents are to blame.) I applaud the involved community at Broadlands for staying active.

I applaud the HOA  and its staff for the work they do.

Have a safe and fun weekend.

    Staci -

I want to thank you for all of the effort you put into the pools in Broadlands time after time. Your efforts are greatly appreciated - you consistantly go above and beyond the call of duty. The community is very lucky to have you.

As for the people who pulled this prank on the community pools...I only have one word for you...KARMA.

Staci - thanks again for your efforts.
