The lamp out side (near the mail box) should shut off itself when there is day light....but mine stays on all day and all night..

    Anything I can do ?

I already cleaned the little sensor area , checked all the switches in the garage/home etc..

I have no useful suggestion but can't hold back the suggestion that you simply turn your house around so the sun shines on the sensor to let it know that it's day time. Like I said, useless but I hope someone smiles a little.

You need to get a new sensor. Home Depot has them and it's very simple to install it yourself.

Yes I agree...its the sensor. This exact same thing happened to me. Got it at Home Depot for around 10 dollars, and installed it myself. Make sure you turn you're electric off first.

We had an electrician perform some services for us and while he was there was talked about our sensor. Our problem is that the plants have grown too close to the sensor and the sunlight is not able to get to it as well. As a result ours stays on all day too.

The electrician said he could move the sensor to the opposite side of the sidewalk and onto the light pole. This would solve the problem. For a fee, of course.

    Hello Broadlander-ianos!

I'm having problems with the outside lamp - staying on 24X7. for the life of me I can't find the light sensor....What does it look like? Is it normally installed on the light pole? Please help!

    Thanks!

    Mike

Koyak, not sure what style lamp you have but the sensor is generally located just below the lamp on the pole. It's a small panel, circle or box.

That could explain why I did not see it - I'm somewhat vertically challenged.

Our sensor was rectangular and boxlike, was a grey in color. Like I said before it is so much more worth it to have a sensor put onto the pole to turn the light on and off based on the sun.

This sounds like the junction box more than just the sensor. I suspect the sensor was attached to the middle of the junction box cover. This box is where the power from the house routes to the lightpole.

Our VM house had the sensor on the pole, but we also had a junction box at the outside corner of the garage to bring power to the pole.

We never got to change the sensor on our pole because my husband said he did not find the sensor ( I did not ask whether on the pole or in home depot :) )
