I've ordered sandwiches and fruit trays, etc., from grocery stores, but I'm wondering if anyone here can give me a good, out of the box idea I hadn't thought of!

It will be my son's birthday party, so kid friendly is a must, but there will also be a bunch of adults to feed.

Suggestions? I'm not opposed to sandwiches at all... open to any idea that is different from the grocery store trays. We'll need to feed around 20 adults and 12 kids or so for lunch.

Thanks for the ideas, and any URLs would be appreciated too!

Guapo's in HErndon. They have awesome rotisserie chicken and yummy cheese quesadilla's. And they cater!

Anothai is doing catering now. Certainly not your typical fare.

Chicken nuggets and mini rolls are great for kids as well as other selections.

Barbeque places usually cater. Panera does, too. Subway sandwich by the yard. Bowls of various pastas and salads from Wegmans.

Whatever you decide, if you're going to be outside in the heat (or just letting things sit out for a while) stay away from the dishes with mayo since it spoils fast.

I had a great experience with Famous Dave's in Cascades (kind of behind Home Depot). The food and service were excellent and the price was very reasonable. We fed a large group of kids/adults and everyone loved it - especially the "drunken apples" - I'm not sure about the name, but they are delicious!

We used Chick-fil-A for our son's birthday party and got rave reviews from both adults and kids! They will deliver to your home, too (minimum $50 order). We ordered from the Dulles Town Crossing location. You can phone in your order, or place your order online.

Subway can help you with the kids and adults. We can either do kid paks that come with a toy, drink, cookie, and sandwich or we can make a huge party sub that kids love to eat. For the adults we can make several platters that all will love. We can also provide you with cookies, drinks, and chips. For the amount of food and priice, you can not go wrong. I can even give you a Broadlands discount.

Has the Dulles Chik-fil-A reopened since that woman ran her car into it?

They are open. I drove by there today and they just have that area boarded up that was hit. The restaurant and drive-thru were both open for business.

We were over that way yesterday (after I picked up quads from camp) to get an ice cream for a treat. I did not see anything regarding the incident with the women hitting the restaurant. It was closed though for painting the inside and outside of the restaurant--so we went to the Sugarland Crossing (Sterling) location.

The clerk said that Dulles Chick-fil-A would open again today--06/27/07. I do not know if it reopened or not.

I heard it was a 46-year-old with a learner's permit, and it happened at 8:30 in the morning...maybe on Sunday? We went on Monday and it was closed.

BIG thumbs up to Carolina Bros. we used them for a catering event and my favorite was the chicken, beans and ribs. They had a few items at the Broadlands BBQ to try. Our event was a hit and everyone complimented the food and how great it was!! We didn't like the pies, though.

RE: catering, it's not an original idea, but we used Wegmans last weekend and were extremely pleased: great service in the catering department, nice, fresh, reasonably priced platters, and the cake was good too.
