We're considering finishing our basement and would like to put in hardwood floors. We're interested in who you would/wouldn't recommend to have these done. Thanks!

May want to do a search on this topic I know it has come up pretty recently. However, I recommend Phil and Image Flooring Center. We had hardwood installed in February of this year and they did a great job.

I saw this old post and cannot help but respond. I am sure some people have had pleasant experiences with Image Flooring though I have not. If you ask me, run! They were not cheap, my product was not installed properly, the moldings came up after a few weeks, and their customer service (Phil) was non-existent. Again, I cannot speak for all but if it were me I would look elsewhere.

I concur with blue 110%. We had our floors done by Image Flooring/Phil and had a terrible experience. We were overcharged and because he didn't take the time to first walk through our home to properly measure the area, he didn't order enough material and we had to wait an extra week.

Terrible customer service and the quality of work on our stairs is horrific.

Stay far, far away from Phil and Image Flooring!

    christinaandrob and others--

You might check out Sterling Carpet Shops in Sterling (by Belfort Furniture) and their other location in Leesburg. Winston at the Sterling store helped us with our selection on various flooring options (hardwoods included). Web site is--

    www.sterlingcarpetshops.com (Sterling Carpet Shops site.)

Also, check out Lumber Liquidators for great flooring options for wood (hard, exotic, laminates, etc.) for options. Lumber Liquidators has a location in Lorton, VA. See web site for details. When we lived in metro Atlanta areas--we used Lumber Liquidators and have recently some flooring from them for our Family Room and Offices.

Anymore questions just ask--and I will give more details.

I had some additional work done by Custom Floor (think that is the name). Work was satisfactory though you can't beat the price. Information is below. I heard good things about Sterling Carpet though there prices were a bit on the higher side.

Image Flooring is the worst, they installed hard wood flooring on our first floor about two years ago. The wood they installed was defective and should never have been installed. The planks were not milled evenly and we have gaps on certain areas. Unfortunately this was not noticed by us until a couple of weeks after the job was completed. Phil has been to our home a couple of times and has acknowledged that the wood was defective. He has even brought a rep from the wood company. All agreed that the floor would be replaced. Phil has made numerous promises of when it would be replaced but to this day he has not come through. Stay away.

Sounds familiar. I even offered to cover the cost to have the problems fixed with my floor though that still was not enough to get them to come back out and perform the work.

I recommend Elegant Carpet & Flooring, out at Beaumeade. We just had Bruce engineered hardwood installed on our first floor and regular hardwood installed in the stairwell and they did a fantastic job. They kept their work area pretty clean, and did a pretty good job of cleaning up when they were done, though despite all their effort there was still quite a bit of dust (be prepared to clean your A/C filter and go over eveything with a vaccuum). They took about two days to do the job; the poor guy had to measure and cut each piece because there's not a straight wall in the house-but it looks fantastic.

Our salesperson was Chris Dick, 703-724-4440, www.elegantcarpetinc.com, 21770 Beaumead Circle, Ashburn.

    Good luck with your project!

Hm-obviously, I was not paying attention and you posted your question nearly a year ago-I hope you found a vendor that was satisfactory.

I've heard people having good luck with Home Depot, I know they contract their work out but I think it would be easier dealing with HD than the smaller independent contractors.

In the past, it's been hit or miss with hardwood flooring, you either get someone really good or someone that just doesn't care and it's a job.

    Good luck.
