Will be travelling through Annapolis around lunchtime, and would like a suggestion of someplace to go for lunch. Have never been to Annapolis, would like to see some of the historic downtown area, maybe find a place on the water... but it must be suitable for little ones. We'll have them with us too.

    Suggestions? Thanks!!

If you're looking for something quick and not at all fancy, Chick and Ruth's Deli is good. It's an Annapolis institution.

Chick and Ruth's is an institution, but it can get busy fast. It's also small and cramped. I'd recommend the Marketplace right at the City Dock. It's the big rectangular building right in the middle of the square. There is an assortment of food from seafood to pizza to burgers......There's not much in the way of seating, but I always love taking my kids outside to eat near the water. It's WAY cooler than sitting inside.....and fun for people watching!

There are other alternatives too, but most can get pricey. I used to live in Annapolis so if you have any more questions, feel free to PM me.

Chart House and Carroll's Creek over in Eastport are good restaurants, they would give you good views.

Is the Market House open? It was heavily damaged after a hurricane and last I heard they wanted to put a Dean & Deluca in there. I used to live there too and tend to stay away from the downtown area when I go back to visit, I'm afraid that most of what I would recommend has probably changed hands. If you just want something fast, in the old hardware store where I used to work on Dock St. is a Moe's. Storm Bros. Ice cream next door is the best place to go for ice cream, but if you're going on the weekend, prepare for extremely long lines.

The Market house is open again. I have to agree that lots has changed at the City Dock, including the Market House. Before the damage, there were vendors that had been there a long time, but now it's has more of a "chain" feel to it. It's still nice though and a great place to get a quick bite if you want to see the sights.

I second Storm Bros. - It's a "must stop" for my family!

If you like to pick crabs, go to Cantler's.

Easiest directions to Annapolis from here? Other places you'd go, things to do while there?

Getting to Annapolis is easy: 495 to Rt 50 East, Exit at Rowe Blvd., go straight until you hit the water.

There is lots to do in the historic district; walking tours, boat tours of the Chesapeake, sail boat races every Wed (I think that's the day), visit the State Gov't buildings, and last but not least, tour the Naval Academy and Museum.

This is just the tip of the iceberg; there are many different things to do at different times of the year. Just last weekend I took my kids on a Pirate Adventure boat outing. Great fun for all!! Kids participate on a "Pirate ship" and they find a treasure map to locate a treasure chest in the bay - they dress the part, get to shoot cannons (squirt water) at other pirates in another boat. LOADS of fun!!

My family and I often go back since we love it there - There's no other area around here like it!

As a USNA grad, I must agree with the Jimmy Cantler's Riverside Inn recommendation - is a great place, but a little ways out of town - best crabs and seafood and quite the hole in the wall atmosphere. http://www.cantlers.com/

I agree with the marketplace if you are looking for inexpsensive and good - but there is not a good place to sit with young ones - those donuts are amazing.

For nice sit-down right in the heart of Annapolis - McGarvey's or Riordan's are two other Annapolis institutions - - just good basic American water-town type restaurants.
