    Homeowners,

The following is an email from VanMetre regarding the lights (or lack of lights) along Village Lane of Southern Walk. Clearly, they have no concept of time (notice the date). Perhaps if the lights went on then we'd all see the lousy landscaping and dead trees in our community.

"These services are being requested. We have to add services where the current Open Band services are to energize the lights. We hope to have these completed by the end of the month. Thank you"

    Mark,

Would you please let this gentleman know when the lights will be on?

You're on VM Time. You got a reply from the famous, Mark "in 30 days" Holliday. Over the years we've learned that to VM '30 days' is actually 6 to 8 months.

I'm going to bump this to ask whether or not anyone has looked in to putting lights along the path that leads to the Southern Walk Shopping Plaza. I dont think it would need huge street light type things but just something to illuminate the path at night. Something about 2 feet high would work just fine.

Sounds like a developer issue ... and whether or not they will spend the bucks to do it.

i agree some lighting back there would be nice...but also since my house backs up to that patch of woods--i don't want anything that's going to be too bright at night.

Lights would be nice but unfortunately, odds are teens would break them.

Would it be better to take the chance that a teen or tow would break them or to take the chance that someone stumbles off the path, breaks an ankle, hip or leg and then decides to sue the HOA or the Commercial Association...or both. Just my .02.

I can see very well in the dark so it doesnt really bother me too much.

My suggestion is a light that is real low to the light that only puts out a small amount of light. Think of runway lights on an airstrip, but less tacky and less bright.

It's so wonderful that the lights through Southern Walk are still dark. It's now been at least 5 or 6 months since they were installed. VM sure is quick on doing things.

    Latest Update:
At each Board meeting I mention the lights to VM. What we have been told in the past has been that the original design only had ONE meter to power the lights and the Openband equipment in most of Southern Walk. Since hooking up the lights to this meter would require some guesstimate of what the association should pay OB for the lights the decision was made (by VM) to install a seperate meter. (For the record I did suggest that OB just pick up all the charges :) )

Anyway - VM is meeting with VA Power today to dicsuss a new dual meter setup and hopes to have a schedule for finalizing the work in the next few weeks.

For those that will remind me of the ("timelines" of VM) - dont bother - I'm not holding my breath.

I was at the board meeting last week, according to VM, Dominion Power was working with OPENBAND on installing meters, blah blah blah. Long and short, looks like end of November (~90 days) accoring to Mr. Holiday. I'll take bets on if that is going to happen or not.

Same question as three months ago, any update on the lights? November has come and gone.

Hmmm a recipe for disaster... No street lights and rampant careless speeding throughout SW.

ok - we were told at the last BOD meeting (about 3 weeks ago) that all the meter boxes had been installed and that the meters would begin being installed that week. I'm guessing that hasnt happened in general.

The next BOD meeting is the Jan 8th - show up and complain. I'll bring it up again - but it always gets the same reaction - "there coming"

No need to guess. I walk right by them almost daily -- there are boxes, clearly labeled, with gaping holes where the meters should be.
With luck I'll be at the next meeting.

    Thank you!
