The talks for the new DC United Soccer stadium have seen to have fallen apart in dc.

    From the Wash Post....

"During the negotiations, D.C. United officials suggested they would consider moving to Maryland or Virginia, possibly the Baltimore or Loudoun County areas, if the District was unable to help build a new stadium, the sources said. United plays at 46-year-old RFK Stadium and had hoped to have a new facility by 2009 or 2010.

"We're keeping our options open," said Julie Chase, a spokeswoman for MacFarlane. "We need a new stadium somewhere in the D.C. area. I can't put parameters on that.""

What are some of your thoughts on having the DC United in LoCo?

Who? Oh yeah, professional soccer. We don't need anymore traffic here (how many go to games?)!

In 12 of 16 games, they have scored 2 goals or less. Lots of 1-0, 1-1, 2-1 games. Yawn. :)

Around 17,000 is the average attendance.

Im guessing you wont be one of them. No loss there.

A lack of scoring does not have to mean that it's a boring game as most people who find soccer boring have never played the game and don't understand it.

If they moved out here, I would get season tickets. No one needs to worry though, the people of Loudoun would never allow any sports team to move here. They are too high on themselves as a whole and would see it as too much of an inconvenience.

I played the game, understand it and find it irrelevant here in the States. Seems to me the LA Galaxy just threw away $50MM on Beckham. But I know kids love to play and that's a great thing. What do you mean the people of Loudoun are too high on themselves to allow it? I haven't lived here that long so I'm interested to know what that means.

Yes, I pay to watch soccer. I in fact love the game, from the MLS to the Barclays Premeir Leauge in England. The true fans are much more intersting and fun than fans of any game I have seen yet. If we want to get all ninny ninny I bet you I could go through things you like or pay for and say the same thing.

Im interested to know what the "too high on themsleves" means as well.

As for people who say it is boring, I get it...not your cup of tea. I dont like golf...you dont like soccer.

Soccer would be interesting if the field were half as big and they put another 3 guys per side out there. Currently, it's a few guys walking, running at times, around a pasture only occasionally creating any excitement.

    (Yes, I played...yes, it's boring)

Kinda how I feel about golf. It would be fun if the holes were laced with land mines and people got to try to shoot the ball out of the a la skeet shooting.

Golf is hard enough without the munitions. :D

From a complete beginner aspect, what is harder, kicking a soccer ball or hitting a golf ball? ;)

Hitting a golf ball with accuracy vs. kicking a soccer ball with accuracy to a teammate when 2 or three defenders are trying to take the ball away from you.

    Both require practice.

The Galaxy didn't pay all of that. His contract also includes endorsements.

I figured I catch some slack for my comment. As always, this is my opinion based on my observations and experiences. I was born and raised in Fairfax County and have lived in Loudoun for a number of years now. These are two of the more affluent counties in the country and one of the differences I have noticed is that the people of Fairfax know their stuff stinks whereas the people of Loudoun think they are better than most, but won't admit to it. Once again, broad terms here. I'm not talking about one neighborhood or community, but as a whole.

When they talked about putting the baseball stadium in Loudoun, people threw a fit. There is no way there will be any sort of stadium in Loudoun ever.

I love the game as well. I was hoping that the deal would go through to complete the stadium in DC (near the Nats new stadium), but I would be happy with it in Loudoun as well. I believe that most of the new MLS stadiums have a capacity of around 20,000, so the stadium would not overwhelm the surrounding area.

For anyone who says they don't like soccer or that soccer is boring, they should take in a World Cup match at some point. The atmosphere is unbelievable.

BTW, who is your favorite Premier League club ?

Soccer would be much more interesting if they combined it with javelin throwing.

IMO, the stadium would have to be near a metro stop to be viable. That leaves us out of the equation for several years.

Completely agree. Saw a couple World Cup matches a few summers ago that were intense and riveting, even thought the score was 1-1. Much like the Stanley Cup atmosphere for hockey fans. (I just find it funny that soccer fans are so sensitive, as are hockey fans like my family).

The problem is that 99% of soccer games, especially in the states, are nowhere near the intensity of a World Cup match...which equates to fairly boring non-action. But if you like it, good for you. Just don't be so sensitive...and don't expect soccer to magically catch on here like in the rest of the world. They don't have real American football :)
