Any current or [recent] former adult orthodontic patients out there who would recommend their doc?

I use Dr. Apt, www.aptorthodontics.com. He is an absolute perfectionist! He has done braces on both my kids and they look awesome!!! Both had big problems and you could never guess by how wonderful they look. I wanted just as beautiful as a smile, so now I go. I love his office, the receptionists & assistants are awesome!!! I would strongly recommend Dr. Apt.

I'd recommend Dr. D - (Dackowski - sp?) over in the Professional Buildings across from the Giant in Ashburn Farm.

I had to have braces two years ago (as an ancient adult!) and was very happy with him. He did an excellent job with my teeth. Also, He understood that I had different needs than his typical patients (meaning I was an adult) and was very accommodating. His staff was also very professional and aware that I wasn't in the same age bracket as most of his patients.

One word of caution: - Most ortho offices are set up in an "open environment" type setting; meaning all the patients are in the same room and being worked on at the same time. There aren't individual exam rooms. I have to admit; it was weird at first going to get my braces worked on with the teens and pre-teens, but after a time or two, I got used to it! Just be prepared for that.....

    Good luck!

Pa2VA & 24around: thanks for your responses! What kind of braces did you have? My MIL had Invisalign, but I don't yet know if that'll work for my problem. I know there are a lot more options now than when I had braces briefly as a kid.

I would also reccomend Dr. Apt. both my kids went and it was the 2nd round for me (wore them from 8th grade until right before my senior year began!). I am mightlily pleased with all. btw, when you finish, make sure you get a permanent retainer on your lower and upper, unless you can only have it on lower. You will still need to wear your real reatainers for a year, and then only at night, but the top one has a clear hard plastic strap in the front, so you don't see it as much. Also, there always seemed to be other adults with braces on walking in while I was there or my kids were.

The permanent retainer is a small thin peice of spiral metal bonded to the inside of your teeth. usually just the front 6-8, that way those teeth will never move again! Once my kid's wisdom teeth are all in they will get them. Any of us over 30 peeps never got bottom retainers and probably back then didn't have to wear them for a year, so that is why lots of us have gone back to the chair! I had metal when I was younger and went with ceramics this time around, which are teeth colored. Nobody I know who used invisalign had the best results compared to real braces.

Unfortunately, for what I needed to have done, I could not have invisalign. I have the newest technology called the the Damon System. You can read about it at www.damonbraces.com. The brackets are smaller and I will never need to wear an expander or any type of headgear. So far so good. Dr. Apt's office has a number of adult patients. Every appointment I've been at, there have been other adults being treated as well.

I am a current orthodontia model (haha). I could not do invisalign because of the procedure I'm having done, so I have good ol' fashioned brackets and wire.

I think my orthodontist is the greatest. I am with Dr. Hukmani over in Landsowne. Direct, to the point, and honest, and his assistants are all terrific. I would recommend them in a heartbeat.

I LOVE my orthodontist - Dr. Alli Guleria (www.drguleria.com)! Several of my friends have also used her. She's located in Reston, but she is absolutely great. The staff is very friendly and I don't feel like an adult going to children's office. Definitely check her out!
