Had delivery from Hunan tonight. I'm now done with Asia Cafe. Will never go back. When I want just plain ol' chinese, Hunan will get my business. It was good, and delivered 10 minutes before promised. When I want something 'more', I'll go with Cafe Opera or Anothai.

Hmmm....Looks like the health department thinks they are going downhill lately.

A lot of the Asian Cafes and restaurants out here that I've been to don't rate very well with the health department. There is a place in Sterling, near the I-hop off Rt. 7 that has great food, great prices, and great ratings and reviews with the state health inspectors. It's called Chopstick House.

The other thing I recently noticed after getting take-out was that the size of the container from Hunan was about 20% smaller than the ones from Asia Cafe. And I mean the round black plastic container that the main entree comes in... Now that I have both at home, I just simply held them up and compared... so if you have both, see if you agree? So, from an average cost of dinner item standpoint, you are getting a better deal from Asia Cafe.

Not that I have the time or inclination to actually compare "like" items, weight and overall quality versus cost. Just thought it was enough to see that I am likely getting 20% less Crispy Beef!

Given the previous comment about the health inspection, this reminds me (and I will paraphrase here as I'm sure I won't get it quite right) of the old joke (this joke is repeated in Annie Hall, but its an old Catskills perennial):

First Person: "Boy, the food at this place is terrible!"

Second Person: "Yeah, I know, and such small portions!"

The only difference would be changing the second response to: "I know, but such large portions!!"

    Hello,
We are new to the neighborhood and tried Café Opera for carry out. I read a lot of good things about this place. However, we were very disappointed. The orange chicken was very bland and I’ve never seen a Chinese restaurant not put orange peels in their Orange Sauce. The Beef and Broccoli was worse. At least the spring rolls were good. For the price I expected much more.

I haven’t read anything good about Asia Café so I guess I try the place by Harris Teeter next.

Totally agree. Their Cafe Opera food is bland. The atmosphere is nice, and they don't seem to have health dept problems, but I would like better tasting food.

give Cafe Opera another try! let them know you can handle more flavor and they WILL spice it up for you. try the Singaporean Noodles and Crispy Beef- they are always excellent. PS_ Welcome to the neighborhood!!
