That was pretty rude. Maybe she needs the $20, maybe she doesn't. Maybe some of us could really use something she has but can't afford it at full price.

BTW...this is money my kids have to earn to buy Christmas gifts for eachother...they have picked out a few older toys they don't play with to sell to earn their own money. And to think...I thought I was teaching my kids a pretty valuable lesson.

Point taken. How bout teaching them another important lesson. I'll personally give them $25 to take the toys to Toys For Tots. They can earn the money AND learn that sometimes giving things to those less fortunate pays off.

As a parent of a 9 month old, i can appreciate someone offering used toys to this board at a reduced price. Whether or not i can afford them brand new is not the issue...maybe i don't want to pay $50 for a toy my daughter may like for a week and a half. I certainly don't qualify to receive toys for tots...so who are you to tell me that i must go buy toys at full price if i don't have to. Keep your $25 bucks...and your opinions.

I can't believe that one little post about selling off some old, used toys would create such mahem. I should not have to explain myself to anyone, but we are a very generous family all year round, not just during the holiday's. I have organized clothing drives for the local battered women's shelter, we always choose 3 angels off the angel tree to buy Christmas gifts for, we donated a TON of different items to Salvation Army just last month, we donate food to the boy scout food drive, as well at local grocery store, we donate *new* toys to Toys for Tots, I've organized food drives for Interfaith Relief, just to name a few...I just don't want people to get the wrong idea that I don't donate things because of something one person said. My kids understand the value of giving and are very good givers in many ways. I also want them to understand the value of responsibility and part of that is doing many different things to earn money to buy their siblings and my husband and myself a small gift for Christmas. They get so excited to do different things to earn money that they are sometimes willing to sell of one of their favorite toys to earn money so they can get a nicer gift for their siblings. To see my son be willing to sell his gameboy so that he can get more money to buy nicer gifts for his brother and sister makes me teary. Those are the moments I love to see in my kids lives.
I get that people need to be generous and give to those less fortunate, especially those that have been BLESSED by God with all of the things that we have, but we do PLENTY, I assure you. I thought I would try and help my kids out by adveritising their toys on here to see if someone in the "neighborhood" could benefit from the less expensive prices of good quality toys. Just because we live in a nice area in a nice neighborhood doesn't mean that people can't look for bargains and try to save money where they can. It's called being a good steward of your money.

moffat5: I hope you don't get the impression that everyone in Broadlands is so judgmental just from the 1 or 2 blowhards on this board (though sometimes I wonder...). It's really a sad state of affairs when you feel you have to justify yourself to people you don't even know. Congratulations on teaching your children the value of earning their own money, and the joy of being able to give to others whether through buying a gift or donating their time and abilities. Those same lessons we taught our daughter have carried into her adulthood, and are an important part of the generous person she's become.
