Thats great news Dutch .... I read a tip of hanging out some clothes or something of yours outside to help them follow their nose. Smart little man is trying.

We've had a stack of dirty clothes at the curb and driveway for 2 days. My wife is now sitting in the driveway with a bowl of food and another one of our dogs while I'm about to drive the immediate area. If anyone spots him please call 703-200-4050 immediately so I know what area he is in. I have a pocket full of treats to help coax him to me.

...and please keep us posted. I know it is hard to find the time, but I want to help if I can when I get home from work.... it feels like he could be found any moment.

Well unfortunately we came up empty today. I don't know if the tip we got that he was headed this way was him or not. We spent all afternoon looking for him in the neighborhood but found nothing and no one we talked to had seen him. I walked another one of our dogs from home to the spot at the bottom of Truro Parish to leave a scent trail home for him should he return to that area. And tomorrow we're kind of at a loss as to where to start. But we're not giving up. Thanks again for everyone's suggestions.

We have called Sam at Puregoldpettrackers.com (thank you Luftinarr) and she gave us some pointers if anyone sees him again that I would like to pass along.

    1. Please do not run after him (he's very scared and even ran away from us yesterday).
    2. She recommends calling his name (Tank) to get his attention, then run in the opposite direction approx. 20 feet, then fall on the ground. This will keep his attention on you.
    3. Do not make eye contact, and don't move but make happy and upbeat sounds and use his name.
    4. If you have any treats (maybe some dog walkers carry them?) toss the treats around you.
    5. It could take up to 30 minutes for him to come to you.

We've been assured this usually works.

If you see him and can't do this, please make a note of his exact location, the direction he was headed and the exact time of day, then call either 703-999-7399 or 703-200-4050 as soon as possible. Again we really appreciate all the support and suggestions.

The pet trackers sounds great. Are they going to come help? I've been keeping my eyes open and am very sad that he hasn't been found yet. Wishing you the best.

If you get any leads on where Tank may be, please keep us informed. We'd be happy to get out and look for him this weekend. Did the tracker lady say that using other dogs is a good trick? I've been taking some different routes with my two goldens, and keeping plenty of treats on me, just didn't know if that was helpful or not.

We've been focusing on the area west of Belmont Ridge Rd. on this side of the Greenway (from the Shirley construction trailers down to Belmont Glen). She is going to start out there where there was a confirmed sighting of him yesterday- which was along the last row of cedar trees before those 2 trailers on the left going north on Belmont Ridge. I sat at the end of a gravel driveway on the west side of Belmont Ridge atop a dirt mound overlooking those fields for hours today without seeing him. We've also walked our dogs from that area back to our home to lay down a scent trail (which cuts across Belmont Ridge from the field over to where Broadlands Boulevard ends). This is our best guess as to the area he might be in, and that's where she'll start with her tracking dogs tomorrow at 8:30.

The dog tracker picked up his scent at the field across from the water tower and it went north along Goose Creek all the way up to the dam up from the water treatment plant. There is an unlimited food and shelter supply in the area and he's in heaven. Unfortunately, that means he's not roaming neighborhoods where he can be spotted. We are going to camp out along his route back in there with our female dog and hope he comes along. The tracker found where he's been sleeping and even found areas where he's stopped to relieve himself.

Wow, overall, I'd say that's positive news. You've got a smart pup there. It also means that perhaps he is staying away from those busy roads, which I assume are the greatest threat to him. Continued prayers and best of luck to you all.

To anyone who has idle time and wants to go for a walk, Tank is in the woods and fields to the left of the water towers. There are mailboxes on the left side of the road (21167 Belmont Ridge Road, including a blue newspaper mailbox). We drive down that gravel road and there is a little hill on the left you can stand on and look around the fields. Also, you can see to the right tire marks leading to the woods line on the right. His scent was found down there in the "paintball" house structures. I would look in the woods down there. As well, we take the road on the left on Belmont Ridge (toward 7) at the Water Treatment Plant (Hearford, I believe). There is private property down there where there is a private house in the woods and his scent was found at that house. The owner has said that it is ok for us to be down there. We park at the side of the road where it is private property and there is a road that runs the back of the water treatment plant that leads to GooseCreek. Tank's scent was found along the woods/shoreline of GooseCreek. If you travel to the dam, you will see a pink towel we left at the trash cans at the dam. Unfortunately, it is like finding a needle in the haystack. Keep your eyes out on Belmont Ridge Road... that whole area where you see woods and fields. We like to say Tank is in Disneyland right now with all the wildlife and his "hunting" instinct. We are dependent on a sighting of him now as I think he is somewhere in the woods or fields. If you are bored and wish to look in these areas, please take some treats with you and feel free to sit somewhere and playfully call his name. If you should see him, sit on the ground, avoid eye contact, and try to lure him with the treats. Tank is very friendly but may have to decide if he wants treats or more fun. He is fully up to date on shots so I don't worry about rabies with him. Thanks for all your help! If you see him, please call 703-200-4050; 703-999-7399 ASAP with a time, location, and direction you saw him travelling. Thanks! Linda

If anyone should go to these fields this week, take a squeaky toy. That might help. Also, his best buddy is Toby, another PBGV. We were out there in the pouring rain this afternoon with Toby. If you go out there, yell Toby's name as well. We walked down past the paint ball figures and houses, down the hill to the creek and back. You'll get great exercise if you do that! I really believe he is still down there. Believe it or not, I have a friend in North Carolina who pictured a "green car" by the fields and saw Tank in her mind. There is a green tractor out at the end of the gravel road I described at the 21167 mailboxes. She pictured him in the woods there. That's where we searched. It is spooky! She keeps seeing fields and treelines. (She has never seen that area before.) Any help is VERY MUCH APPRECIATED! We are heartbroken!

Hi: Just wanted to make sure you have filed a lost dog report with the animal shelter. That way they'll be on the lookout if a match for Tank comes to the shelter. Good luck! I look for him everywhere I go.

Sadly, I have to report that this morning I identified Tank's body at the Greenway maintainence facility. He had been struck and killed by a car on the Greenway. I want to sincerely thank everyone for their help trying to find Tank, especially Erika. Your kind words, assistance and support were invaluable. We will be pulling down flyers over the next few days, but if you happen to see one on your street corner, please remove it for us.
