I got my son a xbox 360 for X-mas. He will want to connect to x-box live. Here is my question. We live in Broadlands North. I am still on AOL Dial up, (I know.... get with the times). Now I know that he will not be able to connect with this. I know that I could switch to comcast, but was wondering if there are any other options out there. Any feed back would be appreciated.

It may be easier to pickup the unadvertised low tier comcast package but there is a slow and painful way to get online with a modem and your xbox (or any other device) using AOL. It would either require internet sharing on your computer or a router (wired or wireless) with a built in modem.

    See this thread. http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/arcmessageview.php?catid=18&threadid=664163

Note, you may need to start with one of the higher tiers then downgrade. I don't think they push the economy tier but it exists. Once you're out of the promotional intro period just call and have them move you to the $24.99 tier.

    Here's a list of their tiers http://www.dslreports.com/faq/15642

I'm not sure what kind of promo offers they have now but it may be worth calling and asking. Tell them you're thinking of going with FiOS as well. ;)

The last option you may have is to nicely ask a friendly neighbor to see if they'll let you piggy back off their wireless network.

Thanks for the response. I'm assuming that Comcast is the only option. No Verizon yet?
