Lets not get into a war here but I do not put that part of belmont ridge on an high priorty list. Waxpool waxpool waxpool!!!! gloucester!!!!! Rt 7 and rt 50 interchanges

Atlantic blvd finished so orbital can have another way in and out when they close those roads by orbital when the nokes interchange opens late this year or early next. think about it when that interchange opens there will be no pacific or gloucester for years after it is open if the road construction goes the way it is going. So we will repeat cedar road. A flex building is about to be built that will stop sterling blvd from connecting to cedar and eventually a possible connection to shellhorn. And we have county planners that think the metro and toll road is the answer for the future traffic problems that will occur from the super large already approved urban centers along the toll road. And we are talking about spending money on blemont road when their are far greater needs for roads in other places. nice to have when the other more needed roads are built. hmmmmm maybe the priorities are all screwed up here.

Seems all of a sudden everything needs to revolve around the broadlands when serious roads are needed to get in and out of this county.

    Lee,

Certainly those are priorities; but so is Belmont Ridge. Besides, it's not an either or; BRMC had proposed to proffer (as in build for free) the four lanes to Briar Woods.

Heck at this point Belmont has been getting more helicopter traffic than the "supposed" helidonna pad at BRMC. I'd be very worried if my High Schoolers were driving that road everyday. In fact, I don't allow them to drive on Belmont at all.

I am looking for some education on this issue. I am a new resident and my first inclination is that a hospital near me and my family is a good thing as are bigger, wider roads and certainly the County can use the tax revenue from a for profit hospital and the very high paying jobs. Thanks.

    Love the username! :D

IMO, the hospital is a personal choice. Many people have valid reasons for it and many have valid reasons against it. The best recourse is to do as much research omn your own and take opinions from both pro and anti with a grain of salt as alot opinions expressed here are not based on actual facts.

    The pros seem to be:
    - more healtcare options and better care through competition
    - jobs
    - revenue
    - road improvements
    - better housing market, new employees will want to live close

    The cons seem to be:
    - noise
    - pollution
    - traffic
    - unknown expansion
    - already have a hospital 10-15 minutes away
    - build it somewhere else

Good luck and welcome to the community!

P.S. don't let this thread frighten you, Broadlands IS agreat place to live. :D

Wow. What a horribly "it's all about me" self-centered attitude. To think that people shouldn't care if they won't be here in 5 years.
I guess we should just tell the Metro to not bother coming to Ashburn because THAT won't be done until 2016 or beyond. Since I probably won't be here, they shouldn't build it.
What a twisted way to think. Even for you, Lee.

T8erman, thanks for the info, that's a good list and i already love the community!
Baywatch, that seems a bit hysterical. i can't see how traffic can get any worse, it could even improve if these guys have to build some roads. the noise thing is an issue i think, but what pollution could there be? i will keep digging and discussing. thanks everyone!

Not to make light of this but saving lives seems to be low on the list these days. ;)

We been waiting for the roads for the last two decades or more. ;) every time we get one built it fills to capacity the day it opens so it seems.

Hopefully playingketchup you don't have a long commute.

You will find roads are the number one problem and it does not look good for the near or far future. Great place to live if you don't commute. ;)

Lee, and this is a huge reason why folks should consider BRMC. I'll say it again, HCA was willing, had it on the table, were ready to sign on the dotted line that they would build Belmont Ridge Road; four lanes to Briar Woods, and the County didn't find that appealing.

Additionally this included a significant enhancement to the Belmont Ridge Broadlands Blvd interchange. What Inova doesn't want to admit is that a majority of the traffic would never go through Broadlands, it would come off the Greenway, onto Belmont Ridge and directly into the hospital. Inova would like you to think everyone would be coming right past the front yards of every resident in Broadlands and Ashburn Farm.

That is unless you are lucky or unlucky enough to use the withdrawn helidonna pad.

Saving lives? B/c you can't go up Claiborne three lights? Please! I grew up in a county that was 100 miles from a hospital, and surprisingly not many people died. With that logic we need to build another hospital in Brambleton, and than another in Leesburg, Sterling, and South Riding.

I do commute and that was the only negative of moving out this far. If HCA is really willing to do those road improvements you say afgm I think that is a HUGE plus for them. Additionally, it isn't just the hospital, but the cluster of other medical buildings and options that work in favor in my mind. More high quality doctors and services is good for us as a community and if I am reading the papers correctly, us as a County for tax purposes.

I still want to understand this more, but my short and quick education has me leaning.
