For those of you who had to go into work today..

It has slowed down drastically here. Right now at just before 1pm its basically a light snow with some rain drops mixed in.

The snow was a big heavy wet snow that was coming down at quite a pace!

It didn't start till somewhere between 9:30 amd 10am.. but by 12:30.. I had a solid 4" on my deck.

Plows have already made their first pass on our street (HOA maintained)...

Unless another band comes through.. there will be no more real accumulation at the current rate.

I just tried to look at the traffic camera at 267 & 28 and it was covered in snow. The one further east on 267 looks fairly clear.

Keep in mind the snow regs for LoCo:

Snow must be removed from your sidewalk within 6 hours of the end of the snowfall. If it falls overnight, it must be removed by noon the next day. Failure to comply can result in a $250 fine by the county.

I saw him on your street, sitting in front of your house, actually, as I was driving by on Ridgeway, only to find Ridgeway NOT plowed. I got lucky to get up the hill. Hubby just got home and said its still not plowed. And it is snowing cats, dogs and hammer handles right now. I haven't measured but I'd bet we have a good 7-8" on the table on the back deck. I've already shoveled the driveway twice and hubby is gonna head back out for a third go-round.

I keep remembering last year's ice storm, and those of us (myself included) who didn't get an early jump on shoveling were HOSED for a week when it all turned to ice. I will NOT go through that again, thankyouverymuch.

I prefer to shovel one inch of snow a few times more than I prefer to shovel a few inches of snow at once.

It's nice when it all melts on its own the next day, like ours did today (we got about an inch).

    What, yours doesn't? :)

When we bought our house last spring the previous owners left us their one year old snow thrower. I guess I should go read the instructions...

I am frustrated with the lack of progress we experience year after year, here in the Broadlands, when it comes to clearing the snow and ice from our roads. I have lived in this community for 7 years and paid my HOA dues as expected. I too have had expectations and have always believed that our asscociation and the people who make the decisions have greatly failed the community in this area.

As I write this, there are four vehicles that have been unable to make it up the hill on Ridgeway and numerous others that are experiencing great diffiulty due to the packing of the snow. A matter that should never have been allowed to reach such a stage, especially since it is only snow. Perhaps, if the roads had been plowed more often and a layer of sand added afterwards, many HOA paying homeowners would be able to reach their homes with greater ease this evening.

Perhaps if there was a person of competence in charge of the snow removal, I would not be questioning what is actually happening with the fees I pay each month or wondering of those who are in charge of the budgeting. Someone/s who has not had to drive the roads of the Broadlands during the winter months.

And, I am already dreading what may be awaiting us, outside our doors, the doors that we pay an HOA fee monthly, in order to be allowed to live behind, tomorrow morning after the tempatures have dropped and it is now longer simply snow on our roads.

The HOA does not plow Ridgeway, VDOT does...Please see pages 14 and 15 of the Jan newsletter to determine who is responsible for plowing your street. I have lived in this community for 10 years and BY FAR the streets which are plowed by the HOA are cleared faster and better than the VDOT streets.

If there is a complaint about VDOT streets such as Ridgeway, the complaint should be addressed to VDOT, the HOA and your fees have nothing to do with snow removal on those roadways.

Some roads are not under the HOA responsbility - VDot manages the snow removal on a large portion of our streets (as mamatothree indicates_
    - page 15 of the Broadlands newsletter indicates who is responsible.

In fact almost ALL of Ridgeway is under VDOT - earlier today I saw one of the HOA trucks (near sunstone) put his blade down to remove some of the snow.

    VDOT's number is 703-383-8368

However Windover is part of the HOA responsibility. I hope that helps and puts things into prespective.

Also for those who posted about Village Dr - that is also a VDOT street (as it is considered a Through Street).

Just an observation, but many people expect the roads to be pristine after it snows. It just isn't going to happen and especially on a hilly road like parts of Ridgeway.

Too many people nowadays think that their all-weather tires are just fine and dandy in conditions like today. Well, if you drive on a flat roads, usually no problem. If you have difficulty managing the hills in your neighborhood or near your work, then my recommendation is to get SNOW tires.

I wish we were still HOA plowed on our street. Back when the HOA took care of us, we always saw a plow the same afternoon - usually several times. Now with VDOT, who knows when one will come speeding by once and doing a lousy job.
